What are your names?
Lachlan, Ryan and Chebs
What is the bands name?
Around 7
How did you come up with the bands name?
We came up with it after our old guitarist asked what time we were practicing, and the answer was “Around 7”.
What is your genre of music?
Alternative Punk Rock
Give us a little bio about you.
We formed in October 2011 when we were all in high school. We’ve had a few line-up changes over the years and released 3 EPs, a handful of singles and somehow 12 years later, we’re still going and doing better than ever!
What made you go into music?
All of us have been surrounded by a variety of music genres from a young age. We’d mostly have our parents to thank for that, I guess!
Who are your influences?
Loads of bands! From Green Day to Iron Maiden and Biffy Clyro to Avenged Sevenfold.
Are you a signed?
Not to a record label, no!
You released your new single ‘This Ain’t Your Soundtrack’’, tell us more about the single and the meaning behind the song.
“This Ain’t Your Soundtrack” is about the feeling of fighting between fear on one side and thrill on the other. Being impulsive and going back on promises you’ve made yourself, living in the moment, and making sure future problems are for your future self without caring about consequences. The strong thudding pace in the track gives the feeling of your heart beating out of your chest as you dive in to the unknown. It’s time to do what you want to do in the moment. Would you want to take the dive or play life safe? Well… This ain’t your soundtrack, but this is your moment!
Describe the track in two words.
Party Banger
What was the writing and recording process like?
Reasonably simple, actually. A lot of the time, a song will come to us out of nowhere. Ryan had the initial riff and some lyrics for the chorus. Lachlan and Chebs came up with their parts. Ryan went home and wrote the verse lyrics then once we added the “Hey” in the chorus, that just made it.
Who did you work with on the single?
Just the three of us for writing, Ryan Shepherd (our sound engineer at King Kong Music Co, Dundee), and our manager, Jay, for a final opinion on the track.
Describe each song in two words.
Will we see a music video for ‘This Ain’t Your Soundtrack’ and if so tell us what we can expect from the creative process and inspiration behind it.
Lyric Video
Will we see an EP or Album and if so, what can we expect from the creative process.
At some point, yes! We’d love to release more music. The way we are writing at the moment is pretty similar to how we’ve always done it but with us all maturing, the songs are as well. A lot of what we are writing just now is some of the best we’ve written to date and can’t wait for you all to hear it.
Do you have any live shows coming up?
Yeah!
22/09 in Carmyllie Hall for the East Coast Weekender Motorcycle Rally,
29/10 in PJ Molloys, Dunfermline Let us know where we can get tickets if so.
We put all of our ticket links in the one place to make it easier for everyone! Any tickets for upcoming shows are available through our linktree.
What else can we expect in late 2023?
We’ve got a couple more shows in the works! There’re a few bands we’d like to sort out shows with so we’ll try and make it happen.
Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Hopefully on the festival circuit and touring but still doing what we do! We love writing and performing live so as long as we’re still doing that, we’re happy.
What quote or saying do you always stick by?
“You’re never going to remember all the venues that you play, or all the people that you meet, but they’re going to remember meeting you for the rest of their life. So you’ve got to make it good for everybody.” – Ronnie James Dio
When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
As a band or as a crowd member…?
Band: – Mic Stand Pick Holders. They always seem to go missing.
– Ryan’s Snark Chromatic Tuner. Always seems to disappear too!
– Melvin the Sock Monkey. He’s an essential part of the A7 show. Melvin’s been with us for nearly a decade and has probably travelled with us more than most of our equipment at this point!
– Deathroe stagewear (www.deathroe.co.uk). We’re all for supporting small businesses. So many closed during COVID. Small independent businesses just collapse without support and what better way to support than repping them on stage, right? Who doesn’t love tattoo inspired clothing?!
– Deodorant. Imagine sweating on stage for a full set then having to all jump in one car and travel for 2+ hours distilling in each others BO… Good deodorant is key, man!
Crowd:
– Band Merch. Nothing looks cooler than a load of folk supporting the band by wearing their merch!
– Cash. Always remember cash. Not every band takes card at their merch stalls. Always good to have enough to pick up a T-shirt, CD or patch. Buying merch is the best way to support a small band!
– Don’t forget to bring a good attitude. Nobody wants to be standing next to an arsehole at a gig. Everyone’s there to have a good time and listen to good music. All it takes is one person being a pain to ruin it for everyone around them.
– Photo ID. We’ve probably all forgotten it at some point. You stand in the queue waiting to get a couple of beers in, realise you don’t have ID and start to panic. If you’re lucky enough to look under 25, remember your ID or you’re on the soft drinks!
– Tickets! DO NOT LEAVE HOME WITHOUT THE TICKETS. If they’re E-Tickets, remember to have a charged phone with the ticket code ready at the door. Can’t even imagine turning up to a gig and forgetting the tickets!
Do you have social media accounts so your fans can follow you?
We’re on the big ones! @Around7UK on them all!
