Give us a little bio about you.
We met while studying music abroad in Sydney, Australia in 2014. While writing and performing songs together, we came to the realization that chemistry was not only found in our music but also our love for each other. In 2016 we got married and formed HOFFEY as a way to create music together.

What made you go in to music?
We both grew up immersed in music. It was just a huge part of each of our lives individually. Once we met we formed HOFFEY so we could do what we love together.

Are you a signed?
Yes, we recently signed to “Physical Presents” in Toronto, June of this year.

You released your new single ‘Holiday’, tell us more about the single.
We wanted it to feel as if you were driving down the coast of Malibu with the top down as the sun sets. Or as if you were reminiscing on a previous holiday or dreaming about going on one with someone you love.

What is the meaning behind the single?
This song means a lot to us on a personal level because we wrote it back when we were living in a sketchy apartment. Both of us were working full time, with different schedules, we barely saw each other. All we wanted was to get away to somewhere warm. It’s a very relatable song for anyone in any season of life – cause everyone needs a Holiday.

Describe the track in two words.
Nostalgic, Dreamy

What was the writing process like?
The song was written in our studio space, we came up with a fun chord progression and wrote the entire song in about two hours. We showed the track to our friends/producers Bubele Booi and David Balshaw. They were able to add elements that made the song come to life and give it the feel and vibe we wanted

What was the recording process like?
Once the production of the song was finished we recorded vocals within a few sessions in the studio.

Who did you work with on the single?
Bubele Booi , David Balshaw, Jordan Orebeck

We both play guitar, keys and drums

Who are your influences?
We have a lot of influences but to name a few of the top three would be Lana Del Rey, Ben Howard and Galamantias

How do you get inspiration to write songs?
Life, experience, relationships.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
We’ve always been the type of people that don’t like to put expectations or limits on anything especially life. We don’t know where we’ll be in 5 years but it sure wont be boring.

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?
We love to find cool cafes around town. We love coffee! We enjoy long boarding, surfing, hanging with friends, thrifting, working out. We’re almost never home and if we are it’s because we’re in the studio or sleeping.

What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more in to the music scene?
Jordan: I wouldn’t say there was an exact song that made me want to go into the music scene. But Ive always been very inspired by the feeling and vulnerability of music. I love creating something from nothing and its always been a way for me to vent and sort through emotions.

Erika: For me I grew up listening to all types of music but the song that I’ve listened to since I was a little girl is “Come Away With Me” by Norah Jones. The emotion, lyrics and melodies in that song made me fall in love with music and helped me realize it was something I wanted to do with my life.

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?
This ones tough but if we narrow it down to just one piece of advice it’d be to not take yourself and like so seriously. Laughing is the best medicine.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?
Make music that you would listen to even if no one else did. Make something you’re proud of, something that doesn’t sound like everyone else, something that you love. Be unique and don’t compare yourself. Release your music into the world without any expectations or stress about streams, numbers or fans. Just do it because you want to.
