INTRODUCING HIP-HOP/RAP ARTIST ‘KAI B’ WHO DELVES INTO HIS BACKSTORY, DABBLING IN GENRES AND SO MUCH MORE. WE GOT CHATTING ABOUT NEW SINLGE ‘SECRETS’ AND YOU CAN READ IT HERE!

What is your name?
Kai B

What is your genre of music?
Hip-hop/Rap, but I’ve been known to dabble in a wide variety of genres (i.e,. Alternative, R&B/Soul, and Dancehall)

Give us a little bio about you.
My family is from Jamaica and I lived in Kingston/Ocho Rios for about the first 5-6 years of my life. We then moved to the States, living in Miami first, then eventually relocating to Atlanta. Coming from a Jamaican upbringing, I was exposed to a multitude of sounds, including the likes of Sean Paul, Vybes Kartel, and, of course, the legendary Bob Marley. That, coupled with both of my parents’ affinity for alternative rock and pop music, gave me enough fuel to be inspired to make music that doesn’t necessarily have to fit into one genre.

What made you go into music?
I first started making music at around 12-13. I played around with a MIDI and interface I got for Christmas one year. I didn’t start taking music seriously until I got injured playing college sports. I was a Division I soccer player and played soccer most of my life. Once that injury happened my junior year, I fully immersed myself into music. It wasn’t until last year that I teamed up with my management team at YSAB Sounds in Atlanta.

Who are your influences?
Justin Timberlake and Drake

Are you a signed? No

You released your new single ‘Secrets’, tell us more about the single and the meaning behind the song.
This track was inspired by hopeless romance. ‘Secrets’ gives the male’s perspective of a confusing situationship between a lover boy and a girl who’s heart was recently broken.

Describe the track in two words.
Chaotic Romance

What was the writing and recording process like?
I often reflect back on certain feelings or experiences I’ve had in the past. I had this urge to create something moody, yet energetic, so I went with an almost punk/rock vibe and put my own hip-hop twist on it. Writing this was relatively complex. I tapped into a general experience most people in our generation have, where a situationship almost makes no sense, yet you can’t get enough. I always record in my home studio, it gives me a sense of peace.

Who did you work with on the single?
I found this underground EDM producer, Falci, online and worked with one of my guys up in Toronto to finalize the master.

Will we see a music video for ‘Secrets’, tell us more about the creative process and who you will you work with?
Maybe in the future, right now I’m focusing on creating more and experiencing life to the fullest.

Will we hear an EP or album and if so what can we expect from it?
Most definitely! I plan on releasing a project early this 2024.

Do you have any live shows coming up?
I have a show in late January coming up, tickets will be available soon!

Let us know where we can get tickets if so.
What else can we expect in late 2023? With the year coming to an end, my focus is on 2024. You’ll see me supporting my guys at YSAB Sounds as they release on NYE.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Hopefully, I’d like to get more into writing and publishing for other artists, which will help maximize and strengthen my pen game. In 5 years, I’d like to be a large underground artist.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
These days, I always live by the quote, “This too shall pass.” My grandma always used to tell me this whenever I was going through a hard time and it has always rung true.

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
Chapstick, Chapstick, Chapstick, Chapstick, and Gum
