What is your name?
Marion Shaina

What is your genre of music?
Indie Pop, Pop, Pop-Folk

Give us a little bio about you.
I was born and raised on Long Island, New York. When I was in 3rd grade, I picked up the guitar for the first time. I also quit the guitar for the first time. But when I was in the 8th grade I picked up the guitar for the second time and that was when it stuck. I was obsessed with Taylor Swift and songwriting and I wanted to be just like her. I fixed my gaze on becoming a musician and moving to Nashville and that’s exactly where I am now! It’s so nice to finally be releasing music!

What Made you go into music?
My love of writing. Songwriting is storytelling, it’s exploration, it’s poetry that you feel in your body. I wanted to be part of that.

Who are your influences?
Taylor Swift, Michelle Branch, Noah Kahan, Hayley Reardon.

Are you a signed artist?
Not yet!

You released your new single “Skinny Dipping.” Tell us more about the single and the meaning behind the song.
“Skinny Dipping” is about a boy I was talking to who wanted me to let go of my inhibitions. He wanted me to believe that we would work and give it a fair shot in the same way that he was. I was always one foot in and one foot out. At the time, I was doing a 30 songs in 60 days songwriting challenge, so on one of those days I wrote “Skinny Dipping” about that situation. It helped me work through my thought process and I also ended up with a fun summer bop!

Describe the track in two words.
Hopeful. Sweet.

What was the writing and recording process like?
I wrote this song alone in my room at 8pm at night. It was a very quick writing process, because I was pulling directly from recent interactions. This song was the first song I ever recorded with Lovegrove Studios (production team). Van and Sam were amazing. When I went in to record “Skinny Dipping,” I was actually meant to be recording a completely different song. But something in my brain said to switch it, and I did, and it worked out perfectly!

Who did you work with on the single?
Van Isaacson and Sam Roller at Lovegrove Studios

Will we see a music video for ‘Skinny Dipping’, and if so what can we expect from the creative process?
I initially had plans to make a music video for Skinny Dipping, but I’ve since changed gears. I did, however, record a live session for it that I may release at some point. My focus right now is on recording more music and establishing my presence and sound.

Will we see an EP or Album and if so, what can expect from the creative process?
I hope there will be an EP or Album at some point! Currently I am only recording singles.

Do you have any live shows coming up?
Nothing on the books, but hopefully soon!

What else can we expect in 2023?
I’m currently recording 6 singles, so one may come out before the end of the year, otherwise 2024 is going to be the year to watch!

Where do you see yourself in 5 Years?
Touring a few months out of the year, playing festivals, and continuing to make new music.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
It’s not a quote or a saying, but I like to add the word “yet” to the ends of seemingly negative sentences. Like: I’m not good at xyz- yet! It keeps me hopeful.

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
My guitar, my phone, a phone mount for the mic stand, a water bottle, and a quarter inch cable.

Do you have social media accounts so your fans can follow you?
Yes! They can find me at @marionshaina on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook!
