What is your name?
Anna Elyse

What is your genre of music?
folk-pop, indie folk, singer/songwriter

Give us a little bio about you.
I’m a singer, songwriter, and producer from Orange County, California. I graduated from UCLA (B.A. in English with a concentration in Creative Writing, specifically Poetry) and then attended audio engineering school (SAE LA), where I fell in love with all the steps of the music creation process. Aside from writing incessantly, I grew up dancing. I found that the music studio was similar to being in the dance studio. It provided that same feeling of being completely enmeshed in a project.
Fun Fact: While working in a private Def Jam recording studio, I ended up on a few of Logic’s albums (Under Pressure, The Incredible True Story, No Pressure).

What made you go into music?
I just always felt like it was where I was supposed to be. I danced around it for years and learned all the steps of the process before finally jumping in with both feet.

Who are your influences?
Neil Young, Dave Matthews Band, Dermot Kennedy, Fiona Apple

You released your new single ‘Slot Machines’, tell us more about the single and the meaning behind the song.

Describe the track in two words.
contemplative, locomotive

What was the writing and recording process like?
I wrote “Slot Machines” one quiet day at my piano, and the production came together pretty swiftly. I co-produced this with my friend, Max Mialet.

Who did you work with on the single?
My friend, Max Mialet co-produced it with me. I mixed it, and Fili Filizzola mastered it.

More music! Some live shows and more collaborations with other producers and artists.

Playing larger venues, with a growing fanbase and lots of new music. I’ll also be producing, mixing, and writing for others.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
“Better done than perfect.” Also, just the idea of having grit and a growth mindset.

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
a bunch of my favorite picks, my guitar, a good non-alcoholic specialty drink (like a ginger shot, or sparkling water infused with something), a notebook, my favorite crystals
