What are your names?
Mike!
Tom!
Joe!
Will!
Spencer!
What is the band’s name?
Project Nevada!
How did you come up with the band’s name?
Tom: My favourite flavour of physics is nuclear physics because it terrifies me, therefore it is interesting to me. the name is in reference to the Nevada experiments which were some of the first nuclear bomb tests. looking back, the name sucked but we kinda just had to roll with it ahah
What is your genre of music?
We are a debated Indie/rock band.
Give us a little bio about you.
Mike: I’m the drummer Project Nevada. I have been playing the drums since I was 12, learning by watching other people play the drums when I as in my first year of secondary school. Most of my free and working time is with the band, in my spare time I like to edit things, and produce small media films. I also love meeting up with friends and going to Church. I find this really helps me bring something new and more settled, when it comes to working side by side with my band mates.
Tom: I like compost
Joe– The bands been around for 4 years? I joined about 2 years ago upcoming now, we’ve been good mates before they formed and before I came in.
Will– bass player, I like planes, football, history and music obviously.
Spencer– Well, I like spending 3 hours to find the perfect noise that’d annoy everyone around me, and I like 80s movies and nandos chicken.
What made you go into music?
Mike: on my first day at Hilbre I saw a man named Josh Mackenzie playing the drums. I had never seen anything like it and was captivated by the complexity and coolness this instrument could exert. I remember well, after that day of school, waiting around for my mum to pack away, I picked up the sticks and began to play. Ever since then, I have never stopped.
Tom– Honestly just playing music got me into it. My whole life I wanted to code videogames but the second I picked up an instrument it all changed. I wanted to be a drummer at first and Mikey started teaching me but then Spen taught me a little bit of guitar and so our little year 7 band was me and Spen playing guitar and Mikey on drums. Eventually I picked up singing because the band needed a singer.
Joe– saw a band live in February 2020, just before Lockdown. It was Inhaler, I thought there performance and energy was inspiring, which led to me taking nip at first the bass, then I learned to play the synth (to a degree) for the band.
Will– in year 9 i was hanging out in the music room and mike told me to play 3 notes on the bass, he started drumming along and spen played guitar over it and I have been i into music ever since.
Spencer-Well I’ve always loved music, but I guess it was in year 7 when I met mike and we started jamming because we were to scared to socialise with anyone from outside the music room, Then Tom, Will and Joe joined us.
Who are your influences?
Mike: My influencers would be John Bonham and dan the man from the Wombats.
Tom- I would say that my influences come from all sorts of different places. The Killers, Ultravox and Spandau Ballet come to mind, but it’s all pretty varied. I mean the first genres I got into were dubstep and jazz, so my music taste isn’t really the consistent
Will- the black keys, mac miller, piri and tommy, bilk, logic, ben hemsley, the 1975 and the wombats
Spencer- My biggest influence would be my dad as most of my favourite music comes from the stuff he used to play in the car on the way to Tesco, I’d also say my Brother-in-Law as I’ve always look up to him since I was a kid.
Are you a signed?
Mike: Project Nevada are not signed, but we are managed by a great manager, James Jump.
Will- we are not signed (yet) lol.
You are set to release your new single ‘Want Me To Be’, tell us more about the single and the meaning behind the song.
Mike: Wow. Want me to be is one of my favourite tracks we have written so far. The meaning I see behind the song, is to be with someone in a relationship, and just complying to whatever they want you to be whether you like it or not. An almost sympathetic feeling is emitted from the writer, as we know that this is not the best thing to be doing in a relationship, but he is still being holding his partner together with false loopholes of hope for them. There are also some cool hidden more personal touches throughout the song.
Joe- The song to me means making a change to yourself for another person based off of what you see in society nowadays and what is expected to be of a man and a woman in modern day society, but Tom will probably have more of a defined and set meaning.
Will- want me to be is (for me) struggling to figure out what I want in life and how to act. “want me to be” is more like a question to myself.
Spencer- Well the others may say that the meaning behind the single is about putting on a Façade to someone you really like. I like the thought that the whole song is just a bunch of random un-contextualised sarcastic replies to just take the piss out of life, and in another way, Just not taking life to seriously.
Describe the track in two words.
Mike: Energetic & powerful
Joe- high energy
Will- funky, smooth
Tom- Pyroclastic flow
Spencer– BIG UNCE UNCE UNCE UNCE
What was the writing and recording process like?
Mike: The writing process was quite short for this track. We wrote the bulk of this track in my backroom, and then recorded the track with a great friend of ours Nat Roberts.
Joe- I did the recording at home on my keyboard straight into a MIDI, my jobs easy hahaha, I just do my shit and then send it off to the band for it to be put into the song.
Will- recording process was smooth as we were working with the goats obviously lol.
Spencer- The recording process was really fun as it was recorded in a few studios, we recorded the Guitars bass at my house, but did drums and vocals as well as synth (if I’m not mistaken) in Studio 4 in LIPA.
Tom- I slept through the recording process, because I am literally a sleepy goober.
Who did you work with on the single?
Mike: We worked with James Jump our manager, to help with marketing and production of the song. Nick Murphy and Tord Overland Knudsen helped produce the tracks, and Nat Roberts was the recording engineer.
Joe-Nick Murphy, Tord from the Wombats
Will- we worked with nick murphy, nat, tord and our beautiful selves.
Will we see a music video for ‘Want Me To Be’, and if so, what can we expect from the creative process?
Will – we will have a music video, expect pre historic creatures.
Will we see an EP or Album and if so, what can we expect from the creative process.
Mike: Project may be in the works of a new Ep; it will likely follow In the same footsteps as the track want me to be. However, this could change, depending on which creative era the band are in. Whatever is produced, it will be something capturing and engaging for all to enjoy.
Joe- If we get a good few idea together then hopefully so, and soon, we just need a bit of time in between our lives to write with each other a bit more
Will – an ep/ album will hopefully work on next year after we release another single, we might experiment more with spencers fancy gadgets

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Mike: In 2028 I could see myself doing something unusual, it would be enough to make a living but not a normal job. Whether this is working with Project Nevada, or somewhere in Media. I am all for it!
Spencer- In 5 Years I hope to be supporting massive band and producing.
Will – I see myself in Bolton
What quote or saying do you always stick by?
Mike: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. I find that when I try and do things on my own, they fail. But when I go to God, all things work out. Sometimes not how I expected them too, but certainly much better than anything I could imagine.
Will- “aww it’s not easyyyyy is it”
Spencer- My favourite quote is: “Don’t take Life too Seriously” which my Mum said to me when I was little.
When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
Mike:Ooh hmm. I can’t forget my sticks, In ears (Ear Protection) , Drums, proper stage clothes and spare clothes!!

Spencer– 5 things at a gig, Let me think Ermmmmmm… ahh Coke (-a-cola) Meal deal and a watermelon Elux.
