WITH THE RELEASE OF THEIR NEW JOINT RELEASE ‘LIVING LIKE A GHOST’ WE GOT CHATTING WITH THEM AND YOU CAN READ IT HERE.

What is your name?
Heartracer

What is your genre of music?
Synthpop

Give us a little bio about you.
Heartracer is a synthpop band composed of Chris and Chip Cosby and Wes Tatum. The band formed in 2012 in Richmond, VA. We’ve released a full length, two EP’s, several singles, and now are preparing to release our nextfull-length LP entitled “The Feel.”

What made you go into music?
(Chris) I’ve always enjoyed the way music can inject powerful emotions directly into the listeners bloodstream. The act of making it is also a cathartic one that allows me to sort of tap into the subconscious part of my psyche. I had afriend that committed suicide when I was in high school and that’s when I began writing songs on the piano.

Who are your influences?
We are huge fans of the 80’s new wave era specifically bands coming out of the UK at that time. The Cure, DepecheMode, Tears for Fears, The Smiths. We also have a love for more traditional singer songwriters such as Dylan, Neil Young, Paul Simon David Gray as well as a love for modern ambient/electronic music from artists like David Helpling, Brian Eno, Ulrich Schnauss, Jon Hopkins, Sigur Ros.

Are you a signed?
Midnight Mannequin will be releasing our next album “The Feel”

You released your new single ‘Living Like A Ghost’, tell us more about the single and the meaning.
Behind the song and the collaboration.Perhaps it could sound cliche to say at this point, but this song was written during quarantine at the peak of the covidpandemic. It explores isolation, loneliness, and a feeling of disconnection with the current state of the world. I think these are issues that most people can relate to in some way or another.

Describe the track in two words.
Anthemic. Ethereal.

What was the writing and recording process like?
We initially had approached the song in a much more traditional manner. It felt more like a ballad. Then when webegan to work with David Helpling he was basically able to take the song to the next level and elevate it in an anthemic way. In a funny way we love ambient music but make synthpop music and the more we got to know David we realised he loves synthpop music but makes ambient music. Because of this it was a perfect fit, and we were able to fuse those two favorite genresof ours together.

Who did you work with on the single?
We worked with David Helpling as well as Emily Lazaar who mastered the track.

Will we see a music video for single ‘Living Like A Ghost’, and if so, what can we expect from the creative process?
Yes, it is out now. We filmed it in about 3 nights in Los Angeles. The video was directed by Tim Janssens. The creative process was very freeing as we knew what direction we wanted to go in, the song in manyways gave us that so we just went with it.

Will we see an EP or Album?
Yes, we are planning to release our full length album The Feel this September.

Do you have any live shows coming up?
We will support are our album with live shows beginning this September.

What else can we expect in late 2023?
We are currently working on our next album at the moment.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Our goal is to try to get as many people as possible to hear the music we make. We hope to be playing shows in atown near you!

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
If something can go wrong, it will. Best to have a backup plan!

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
We can’t forget setlists.
We can’t forget in ear monitors.
We can’t forget our USB flash drives. We can’t forget ourpants.
We can’t forget that our car is parked illegally because it will get towed hah.
