What is the band’s name?
The Anahit

How did you come up with the band’s name?
When I was in uni I had to come up with a name for my songwriting final project. Since I have Armenian roots I thought it would be really cool to have an armenian name that has meaning. Anahit in the Armenian mythology is the goddess of wisdom, water and fertility. I really liked it so this is why I chose this name

What is your genre of music?
We like to call it honest and ironic pop spiced with some r&b and electronica.

Give us a little bio about you.
At the start of the project Rita experimented on her own, forming the shape of the band’s sound. It didn’t take long for George (guitar) and Soma (keyboard, music production) to join. The lineup later on in 2019 was completed by Daniel, the band’s beloved drummer. During the last two years they have achieved a fair bit of international success: They have worked together with British musician and producer anatu on two tracks: “what are we” and „lonely”. Since its birth, “lonely” got onto numerous European radio playlists, most notably in France, Austria, Italy, Lithuania and Germany among many others. They opened the year 2020 with a concert in London where they’ve been invited to play at The Lexington. Two of their latest releases ‘Heart Alive’ and I Want Your Ice Cream is currently getting major airplay on international radios.

What made you go into music?
My first heartbreak. I realised that through songwriting I can express my deepest feelings and fears. That power and energy made me fall in love with music for the rest of my life.

Who are your influences?
My main musical influences are Florence + The Machine, RITUAL, The Chainsmokers, Dua Lipa, James Blake, Erykah Badu.

Are you signed?

You released your new single ‘Don’t Text Me’, tell us more about the single.
This is one of those typical break up songs that you can cry and dance to. I think it’s fun, energetic and catchy but also has deep feelings that everyone can relate to.

What is the meaning behind the single?
The meaning is: if you are only here to play with me and break my heart then please just get out of my life cause I do not have the energy for this

What was the writing and recording process like?
While writing the lyrics I had a lot of fun. I built the whole concept around a strawberry pie and that gave me some cool metaphors. When I was done with the lyrics and vocal melody the band created a really cool beat around it. The whole process was so natural.:)
