Give us a little bio about you.
I am a Melbourne, Australia based singer/songwriter, a coach, author, speaker and trainer.
Beyond that, I have spent the last 16 years working with many singers and artists through my singing school, SingOut. I was teaching singing for many years prior to this and have spent more than 30 years teaching vocalists, leading more than 5000 people to grow in their artistry.
I am also a coach who helps leaders and influencers to develop their speaking skills and have written a book, ‘The Art Of Powerful Communication’ to reach many more people to find their voice and message.

You are set to release your new single is set to release ‘Cover Me’, tell us more about the single.
‘Cover Me’ is a song that was written during the challenges of Covid-19.. A time that there was so much uncertainty.. When we didn’t know what it would mean for us, or how people that we loved would be affected.
The song is about feeling covered.. feeling that you are always supported, particularly when you’re standing in the gap, between one point and another.
It’s almost like bringing those internal conflicts together with a sense of being covered and held in the gap. It is where there is a sense of freedom and moving on with a feeling of hope.
Often, when I’m not aware of that, I remind myself again and again that I want the universe.. I want God to cover me and to step in between those moments of uncertainty, where I need to trust.
It’s also a sense freedom from the perceptions of our reality, which is interpretational.. It’s knowing that there is hope and a sense of covering in times of transition and times of gaps and it gives you that sense of freedom and peace.

Describe the track in two words.
Reflective and Inspiring

Who did you work with on the single?
I wrote and composed the music for ‘Cover Me’ and worked with producer, Joshua Hennessy of Pivotal Music Melbourne to bring the song to life.

What was the writing and recording process like?
Writing ‘cover me’ was an incredibly reflective and deep process for me. I was able to sit down by myself in an imaginative state and dive into the feelings that I had been experiencing through lockdowns.

Will we see a music video for ‘Cover Me’ and if so, what can we expect from it?

There is the potential of a video release for ‘Cover Me’.. you’ll have to stay tuned to see its debut!

Themes within the video would include natural wonders that mean beauty, love and freedom to me, including the sky, the sunlight, the beauty of a flower, the sound of the wind, the ocean.

To me, these themes represent the sense of being covered by something bigger than just me.

Recording with producer, Joshua Hennessy is something that I have now had the opportunity to do a few times. He is someone that has a way of hearing a song and capturing a direction so beautifully.. he really is a production master and so easy to work with.

Can we expect any collaborations or if artists or bands would like to how should they contact you?
I currently don’t have any collaborations in the works, however, you never know what 2022 might bring!
If artists would like to contact me, they can find my contact details within my website at www.mariapellicano.com or reach out over social media.

What else can we expect in 2022?
This year is an exciting year for me..
I have plans to launch a workshop aimed at empowering people to speak confidently, engage with others, whether that is through song or poetry and to be fully aligned with their voice and their message, and to want to serve others with their voices.
I’m looking forward to facilitating groups that help people to find their true voice, from their soul and to feel the freedom, the peace and the aliveness that comes with that.
Whether people are looking to share music, poetry or to speak, I want to see people find their message to share with others and to create hope, inspiration, moods, feelings and emotions in others.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
“The voice is the organ of the soul” Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

“We cannot change things with the same thinking that created it in the first place” Albert Einstein

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
1. You cannot forget that at that moment, you are a person of influence, at the microphone. People are waiting to be inspired by you.
2. You cannot forget to be fully prepared and to ensure that all your equipment is ready and working, so then you can serve and you are not distracted
3. Connect to what it is that you are saying and you are singing.. ensuring that it is coming from your soul, not from your head.. that you feel the music and connect to the meaning of it, which allows you to inspire others.
4. Make sure that when you’re gigging, it’s about others.. you’re serving and it’s about how it impacts them and the feedback they get. Allowing yourself to sing songs that other people will enjoy because you’re there to serve.
5. Always ask for feedback. Ask a couple of people that you trust.. not just your friends.. for what you could do better, what did you do well, what were your strengths and weaknesses.
