INTRODUCING INDIE-POP SINGER-SONGWRITER ‘BAD DAUGHTER’ AND HER DBEUT ALBUM ‘LET ME PANIC’ RELEASING UNDER LOS ANGELES AGENCY. GET TO KNOW MORE ABOUT WHO SHE IS AND NEW MUSIC IN OUR CHAT.

No description available.

What is your name?
My name is Dunja (I was named after a fruit Quince), but artistic name is Bad Daughter

What is your genre of music?
I my spare time I listen to college indie rock bands from the 90s, even though I love listening to all genres. With Bad Daughter I play indie pop or at least I am trying to.

Give us a little bio about you.
I was born in 1992. in Split, Croatia. I am a middle child, but it doesn’t show. I wanted to be a cosmologist/profiler/geneticist/but ended up loving one of the least lucrative professions, unless you make it big. I sneeze when I pluck my eyebrows, and I hate people who drive segways or anything that resembles it. I started pouring my heart out, hoping to make money out it, in 2013. when I started my other project Lovely Quinces. In 2016., had a meltdown because music was no fun anymore and started writing Bad Daughter project

What made you go into music?
Nothing specifically. As a kid I would watch my father playing the guitar and he seemed so content and happy, it was like some kind of a power to me. I started writing my own songs at age 12, because I was lazy learning covers. Then when I was about 21, I think, I released my first demo as Lovely Quinces, because I was scared that I would do everything in order: finish college, get a job, get married, have kid etc., and I couldn’t see music fitting in that scenario. So I fucked everything up haha and got my degree when I was 28 because I was busy touring.

Who are your influences?
My influences are Fiona Apple, PJ Harvey, Cat Power, Kim Deal…I look up to strong captivating women.

Are you signed?
My manager is also my publisher, and I released my first Bad Daughter album under his agency, LAA (Los Angeles Agency)

You released your debut album ‘Let Me Panic’, tell us more about the album.
It is a first for me, to do music in a different genre and stepping out of my comfort zone. I tried making an album where you wouldn’t want to skip any song, that is why it only has eight songs. I hope I achieved that.

What is the meaning behind the album?
Like I said, I had a creative meltdown in 2016. and I wanted to experiment a little bit more. There was some creative panic these last few years. Name of the album is some kind of a disclaimer to anyone who listens to it, especially to those who knew me for my indie rock project Lovely Quinces.

What was the writing and recording process like?
Writing process was hell, I feel like that everytime. I don’t believe in inspiration, I believe in work, and I feel that this picture of an artist being struck with inspiration is such a romanticized idea. Some of the songs were older than 5 years because I tend to put songs aside and let them sizzle until I figure it is time to finish them. Recording process was easy because my producer is amazing, and we had this quiet understanding about the sound we wanted to achieve.

Describe each track in two words.
Favourite Game – illusion of dominance
New Lover – Toxic patterns
Body and Soul – regret for trying
Savage – power play
Thick – revenge on mind
Eyes on you – game of luring
Drown Her – letting go
Fuck Paris – I think the name of the track says for itself

Who did you work with on the album.
I worked on the album with my friend and producer Leonard Klaić, who also plays drums in my other project Lovely Quinces,

Will we see a Music video for any of the tracks and if so, what can we expect from it?
I am planning on making a video for the track Eyes on you and Savage. Eyes on you will come at the beginning of 2022., and it will show that this track is actually a prequel for Favourite Game. Savage will hopefully come out around May and like everything else, we will try to make it visually interesting and fresh.

Will we see a EP or Album and if so what can we expect from it.
The album already came out and we will probably have vinyl’s by the time we perform live. I already have some songs and title for the second album, but I will say no more on that matter, it is too soon. 🙂

Do you have any live shows or a tour coming up and if so let us know where we can catch you at?
We are planning on being ready for a live gig in spring and we are currently talking about details because we want to make it very high production. We are not talking about touring yet, but we will probably have some gigs in the summer, if the pandemic situation lets us.

What else can we expect at the end of 2021/ Early 2022?
In early 2022. two music videos and a live gig. Also we are talking about releasing some remixes of the tracks on the album.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
I never see myself that ahead in the future. Hopefully I will be alive, happy, same weight except when I am carrying a Grammy haha

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
One day I will find the right words and they will be simple. – Kerouac

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
Lyrics, the city I am in, photo of me and my dad, whiskey and to say thank you.

Do you have social media accounts so your fans can follow you?
Yes I do, although I hope for the day when that will not matter.

@bikovodenjak – if you want to see my daily life, don’t worry, no avocado toast

@baddaughtermusic – if you want to keep track of my music
