THIS ISNT THE FIRST RODEO IN THE MSUIC SCENE FOR ‘KEVIN MCGINNIS’ FROM BEING IN BANDS FROM 1997 TO RIGHT NOW WITH ‘TWELVE A.M. FLOWERS’. I GOT THE CHANCE TO GET THE LOWDOWN ALL ABOUT WHATS COMING UP INCLUDING THEIR SINGLE, EP NEWS AND MORE!

No description available.

What are your names?
Currently the only proper band member is me, Kevin McGinnis. This has always been my project, with some players coming and going, since 2002. Other musicians in the past have been Tony Maimone (Pere Ubu) and Kevin March (Guided By Voices).

What is the band’s name?
The project runs under the moniker “Twelve A.M. Flowers”.

How did you come up with the band’s name?
The name is a product of catching a tiny gift from the universe out of the corner of my eye. Two newspapers sat on each other, and where the text met from each one, it said “twelve a.m. / flowers”. I thought to myself, put those two together and that will make a great title, maybe I should use it. Then with that in mind, I thought that pretty, more heartfelt music would pair with the name very well. So, I began writing some tunes.

What is your genre of music?
I tend to describe the music as “A Bright Reflection Off Of A Black Window”.

Give us a little bio about you.
My first professional musical outing was as a member of The New Rising Sons, founded in 1997. The band would sign to Virgin Records, recording a full length LP produced by Ted Niceley and mixed by Andy Wallace. After the breakup of the New Rising Sons, I joined Dopo Yume, appeared on Shudder To Think frontman Craig Wedren’s album Lapland, was featured on lead guitar on the Guided By Voices song “Overloaded” from their album August By Cake, and continued as main songwriter and performer for the shoegaze band Ursula Points. On The Bloodthirsty Lovers tour in support of their album The Delicate Seam, I supplied bass, synth, and guitar. In 2017 I formed Twiggy Branches with Christopher Pravdica of Swans and veteran drummer Drew Thomas. Twiggy Branches is still putting out music in 2021.

What made you go into music?
It happened quite naturally. Music was a very important part of daily life back in the late 80s when I was a teenager, so it just made sense to pick up a guitar, while your friends did the same, and all get in a room and make a bunch of noise, trying to emulate our heavy metal music heroes.

Who are your influences? There are many records that have moved me over the years, some have blown my mind, some have changed my view on life… that said, a couple of those were delivered by such legendary talents as Miles Davis, Japan, Iron Maiden, Curtis Mayfield and Megadeth, to name just a small few.

Are you signed?
As of the writing of these answers, there is no label involved.

Your new single ‘Darling,Darling’ is out now, tell us more about the single. What is the meaning behind the single?
The song (and EP) are written about the meeting of a woman one fateful night in the French Quarter of New Orleans, and thinking that your entire world has opened up in brand new fantastic ways, with the great deep expectation that things will only get better.

Who did you work with on the single?
“Darling, Darling ” was recorded in Charlotte, NC, at a good friend and fellow musician’s studio, Justin Hertzell. He’s done a wonderful job engineering and mixing the tracks. The mastering was done by another old friend and collaborator, Carl Glanville, who has won Grammys for working with U2, amongst others.

Describe the track in two words.
In the words of Stefani from the blog ‘The MIC’, I would say:”Magnetic Love”

Will we see a Music Video for the single and if so, what can we expect?
If any label or some extra money falls into place, yes, otherwise, budget restrictions will not allow one, unfortunately.

You are also set to release a new EP, what can you tell us about it?
“As They Kiss Consume” is a title taken from the writings of Shakespeare. In my mind it fits perfectly with the subject matter behind the three songs that will comprise the EP.

Describe each track in two words.
I can describe the other two tracks with simply their titles, which will show a little more insight into the stories and concepts behind the EP.
“Dangerous, Darling” and “Damaged, Darling”

What else can we expect in 2021? When can we expect to pre-save/buy the EP.
Hopefully it will all be done by December, but things might have to play out a little longer and it may get released early spring of 2022.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
I literally have no clue, haha.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
A perfect quote when it comes to music and it’s creation, which I believe was said by Charles MIngus is, “That which is pre-arranged must have the spontaneity of reflex”.

Do you have social media accounts so your fans can follow you?
Since I have a few different bands etc, I use one account for them on a couple of platforms to make my life a little easier.
