What is your name?
JD Nash

What is your genre of music?
I would say that I dwell in the Alternative Folk, Folk rock, and Alternative Country categories.

Give us a little bio about you.
I have been playing music for more than 2 decades, focusing a lot on guitar oriented music. I have played in a handful of indie rock, and progressive rock bands over the years, touring across the United States a handful of times. I ventured out on my own about 3 years ago. I have a previous ep
that was released a year and a half ago that broke the ice for my solo career. I am now releasing a series of 4 singles in the new year, spread out over 4 months.

What made you go into music?
My dad played guitar and sang every night in our house growing up, and my oldest brother was also a singer. Music was in my blood from a young age. I have always been drawn to it, particularly the composition and writing side of things. I wrote my first song on guitar when I was 8 years old.

Who are your influences?
There are so many! Which ones to choose. My biggest one is Led Zeppelin. I was given a Houses of the Holy cassette in first grade and wore it out in about a month. Other big influences are a lot of the Seattle scene bands, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains are big ones.

Are you signed?
I am unsigned and release all my recordings independently.

You released your new single ‘Shock Therapy’, tell us more about the single.
Shock Therapy is a part of a 4 song EP that I am releasing as singles. I recorded them in the mountains of New Mexico at a studio in Placitas, New Mexico. The songs were all recorded by my friend and collaborator Jon Paz. They were then sent to El Paso, Texas to be mixed and mastered by
Chris Common (Le Butcherettes, Chelsea Wolfe, Antemasque).

What is the meaning behind the single?
Shock Therapy is a song that I came up with from a dream that I had. I often have vivid dreams that have musical soundtracks. I woke up from the dream scared, almost wondering if it was real, jumped straight up from bed and went across the hall to my home studio. The lyrics and music
poured out.In the dream I was physically sick, searching for answers to my illness. I went around to trusted people searching for answers, ending up at a doctor from my youth. He had nurses tie me down on
a gurney, put the headband on my head, and told me to bite down on a mouth guard. He just said, “trust me, this is the only way.” As I convulsed, I awoke, trying to examine the meaning of the dream.

What was the writing and recording process like?
I write and demo all of my songs in my home studio. Shock Therapy is a song that really just poured out of me after the dream that I had. I probably spent 5-6 hours writing the guitar, bass, and vocal parts of the song. After I had enough songs demoed, we went into the studio. The studio I record at is full of amazing vintage gear. It is an amazing environment to complete a project. We recorded 4 songs over 5 days, then sent them to be mixed.

Describe the track in two words.
Groove and Dreams

Who did you work with on the single?
The song was recorded by Jon Paz, Mixed and Mastered by Chris Common Chris Common (Le Butcherettes, Chelsea Wolfe, Antemasque). Back up vocals and bass were recorded by Edgar Hernandez, drums and percussion performed by Joe Wilson, while Jon Paz played all of the keyboard
instruments.

Will we see a music video for ‘Shock Therapy’?
I will be recording one in the New Year. It is going to use 360 cameras and be a bit artsy.

What else can we expect in Early 2021?
There are 3 more singles that will follow this in the coming months.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Playing shows and recording more music with my friends in Albuquerque. I would love to jump on a tour or two to support some larger artists.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
“Rather be forgotten, than remembered for giving in.” – Dennis Lyxzén of Refused
