MULTI-INSTRUMENTALIST DEANNA DEVORE IS A ARTIST BASED OUT IN CHICAGO AND TORONTO, I CHAT WITH HER ALL ABOUT HER BRAND NEW EP ‘HALF AND HALF’, GIVE IT A READ HERE!

Give us a little bio about you.

I’m Deanna Devore, a songwriter/multi-instrumentalist and producer based in Chicago and Toronto.

What made you go in to music?

Music has been my life ever since I was little. I learned to play instruments at a young age and then starting writing music. Once I got older, I decided to pursue it full time.

You recently released your EP ‘Half and Half’, tell us more about it.

It’s called half and half because half the album is electronic and half is acoustic (some songs are in between – picture a spectrum of sound).

What was the writing and recording process like?

“half and half” went through many transformations, because originally I was planning on recording an all acoustic album.
The album is mainly self-produced. I record in a home studio in Toronto and perform all the parts myself. There are a couple of tracks that had additional production by Hugh Fothergill, a producer/engineer in London, UK. I went out there for a couple weeks to finish those specific tracks.

Do you have any shows coming up or a tour in planning? If so where will you be heading?

Yes, a tour in November!
11/8 – Chicago, IL
11/11- Toronto, Canada
11/12 – Rochester, NY
11/13 – New York, NY
11/14 – Philadelphia, PA
11/15 – Washington, DC
11/16 – Pittsburgh, PA

Do you play any instruments?
Yes I play what you hear on the recordings – so guitars, bass, synths/keybaords, make beats, (I also play drums but there aren’t any live drums on the recordings).

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?
I really like to cook so when I have time I like to try out new recipes. I also enjoy checking out the new bars and restaurants in Chicago and the street art.

Where in your hometown is a must go to visit?
Kensington Market in Toronto is a must. Toronto is so diverse that you would also need to take advantage of all the ethnic foods – Malaysian, Jamaican, Indian, Chinese etc.

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
All my equipment – which would definitely be more than 5 haha. But I can name some:
Pedal board, guitar, my own mic, amp, and a guitar pick.
