What is your names?
AF: Alexa Ferr

What is your genre of music?
AF: R&B/Pop

Give us a mini bio about you.
AF: I started doing music and dance at a young age and constantly did showcases, and local competitions in my hometown Toronto, ON (Canada). I was also taking acting classes with Eleanor Fulcher Agency at age 12, which led me to fly out to Los Angeles (LA) for the first time for IMTA, which is an International talent competition, and I was scouted by a few producers and managers. In my younger teen years, I signed with Schueler Talent in LA. I was also working with several producers from age 15-present (23) in L.A, Houston and Toronto. I released a few singles, an EP and a mixtape since 2010. Eventually after flying back and forth to L.A, I moved out here a few years ago to continue pursuing my music career. Since my move to LA, I’ve performed at famous such as The Whisky A GoGo, House of Blues, The Study, Taste of Soul LA, etc. I’ve worked with Th3ory of The Penhouse on several singles I’ve released the past 2 years and I am currently working on my new EP that I will be releasing this summer/early Fall 2018!

What made you go into music?
AF: Ever since I was a baby, the sound of music, harmonic vocals and melodies gave me a feeling I couldn’t explain. I always loved entertaining my friends and family whether it was singing or standing on speakers in my diaper and dancing to Michael Jackson! I always knew I loved music, and performing felt natural for me, so I eventually decided to take vocal lessons to perfect my technique. I ended up taking it really serious and wanted to pursue this career since a very young age. My musical influences like Madonna, Rihanna, Beyonce, Aaliyah, Brandy, Justin Timberlake and Jojo really got me into wanting to be an artist, though. I always loved their music and respected them as artists.

Are you signed?
AF: Not at the moment.

You released your new single “If You Only Knew” tell us more about it.
AF: Yes! This track is about a situation I was in where I felt my significant other was playing games with me, meanwhile he thought I didn’t have other options and I can do the same shady things he was doing. I’m always 100% loyal when I’m in a relationship, so I never entertain anyone else, but “If only” that person knew, I could be doing just that, but I don’t.

What was the writing process like?
AF: Th3ory and I wrote the verse and hook in a short period of time. We sat down and talked about what was going on in my life at that moment and how I was feeling that day. I explained to Th3ory what’s been going on and the song just came out naturally. I said something like, “if only he knew what I could be doing and the options I have, but I’m so loyal that I just wouldn’t” and that’s literally how it came about! I had put the song to the side for a bit, but then I ended up writing the 2nd verse months after Th3ory and I recorded the first verse and hook. I instantly wanted to release and share this song with everyone!

What was the recording process like?
AF: It was super smooth. Very chill vibes and it was therapeutic for me.

Who did you work on the Single with?
AF: I worked on this single with Th3ory of The Penhouse. He produced the beat and we co-wrote the song together. My engineer LJ from Ottawa, Canada, mixed and mastered this song.

What message are you trying to get out?
AF: The message I’m trying to put out is that don’t let your partners forget what you COULD be doing behind their backs, like they do, but you don’t, because you’re loyal.

Can we expect an EP or album this year and if so can we have a teaser?
AF: Yes! This summer/early fall. It’s going to be a bunch of r&b sounds, lyrically it’s very personal and I talk on a few topics like, love, heartbreak, taking control of my life, grinding to where I want to be, etc.

Do you have gigs coming up or a tour in planning?
AF: I will be confirming and announcing them soon.

If so where are you thinking of heading?
AF: I would love to perform all over the States and Canada, and possibly make my way to Europe and the U.K or South America very soon!

AF: I plan on releasing an EP, visuals, collabs with other artists, performances, and some surprises!

Which TV channel would you like one of your songs to be played on?
AF: MTV, BET, Much music and Revolt TV.

How do you get inspiration to write songs?
AF: It depends. Sometimes I’ll just be going through something and want to talk about it or write about it, or I’ll hear a beat and picture a visual in my head and write about a scenario either I went through or someone I know.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
AF: I definitely see myself releasing more music, collaborating with more musicians, artists and producers and touring. I’d love to start my clothing and facial lines soon as well.

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?
AF: I listen to music, workout, hang out, shop, get my nails done.. girly things lol.

What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more into the music scene?
AF: “Leave, Get Out” by Jojo is the song that made me want to really take music seriously. I looked up to her so much as an artists since that first single came out. It’s funny because I actually met her at a red carpet event a few years ago and I told her that and just thanked her, she was the sweetest! She thanked me for letting her know that and just encouraged me to keep pushing.

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?
AF: Stay true to yourself, work hard and believe in yourself.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians, not about the industry and just as an artist?
AF: Just stay true to yourself, work hard and believe in yourself. No matter what people won’t see the vision unless you believe in yourself and put your all into it.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
AF: “Always love yourself.” I also love “Do good and good will come to you”. I got both of these tattooed on me and they are constant little reminders of what I live by.
