What is your name?
Carine ED
What is your genre of music?
It’s a mixture of pop, rock & folk
Give us a little bio about you
I was born in Paris and began to learn how to dance very early on in my life.
At the age of thirteen I began to write a compilation of both stories and poems – one of my first poems was even published! I was able to take my love of the written word and art to university where I studied in journalism and the arts. Nowadays I write lyrics and compose my own melodies with my ukulele. A lot of my friends are composers from the rock scene so hanging out with them can be inspiring too!
What made you go in to music?
In 2013 I got really sick and ended up spending a lot of time in hospital. Music helped me feel like I was alive and outside. I didn’t want to give up that feeling when I got better.
You’re set to release your Single ‘Give Me More’ UK DEBUT ,tell us more about this.
The track focuses on the humor between girls and boys in relationships – sometimes our expectations don’t line up. Sometimes guys think they’re superheroes when actually they’re super zeroes…
What was the writing process like?
My approach to writing songs is pretty straightforward. I write the melody and lyrics and my composer Johan Czerneski helps me refine the sound. I try and capture a feeling first. Recording wise Johan and I headed to our favourite studio in Paris where we mixed it down together.
Will we see an EP or Album in the UK this year?
Well I’m excited right now because I’ve just started composing my first EP which will be entirely in French. I’m a huge fan of Serge Gainsbourg so I’ll be drawing influences from classic French music. Also I have to give props to Brigitte Bardot ! I love that hot feeling they both deliver.
Do you have gigs coming up or a tour in planning?
Yes I have a few dates in France which you can view on my Facebook page. I’m hoping one day I can come and play in the UK too !
What else can we expect from you this year ?
I’ll be on stage with one of my favourite French composers Francis Cabrel… writing a song with him would be amazing
Would you be up for collaborations if other musicians wanted one with you? and who would they have to contact?
I can’t even lie but I would love to work with U2
Do you play any instruments?
Yes the ukelele first and foremost.
Who are your influences?
It’s a weird mix but I right off the bat I would say: Muse, The Kills, Beth Ditto, Vanessa Pardis Lenny Kravitz & of course Serge Gainsbourg
How do you get inspiration to write songs?
I like to channel whatever emotion I’m feeling so to be honest it could be anything I’m feeling, be it sadness or happiness.
Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
I would love to do the Olympics ! I’m so excited for Paris 2024
When you’re not doing music, what do you do?
I work in media as a TV journalist
What’s the best advice you have ever been given?
Go on and still believe !
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry ?
Don’t wait around for a label and don’t be afraid to make music by yourself.
Do you have social media for fans to follow you?
Of course
