FROM THE FOOTBALL FIELD TO THE CENTRE STAGE, INTRODUCING NICK DE LA HOYDE CHATS WITH ME ALL ABOUT HIS SINGLE ‘HOLD ME CLOSE’ , TEASES EP AND LIVE SHOWS!

What is your name?

Nick de la Hoyde

What is your genre of music?

Future Pop, pop, dance, rap, Hip Hop & R&B .. I tend to cross over quite a bit

Give us a little bio about you.

I grew up in a musical family. My older two brothers were in a band together, but initially I was obsessed with pursuing a football career and ended up in Barcelona from the age of 15 on a development program and then playing semi professionally until I was 20. A little after my 20th birthday I returned to Sydney and began pursing music.

What made you go in to music?

During my time in Barca, when I felt emotionally low, I would write my thoughts and emotions down on paper as I found it helped me feel better. As time went by, my writing turned into poems and then raps and eventually these turned into songs which I would mash-up with instrumental tracks I would find online.
At this stage it was all just for fun but the passion grew and music began taking over my life to a point where nothing else mattered anymore and that included football which had been my life up until then.

Are you a signed?
I am not signed to a major but we run our own family label Gatcombe Music and although I have management based in the US I have a lot of say in where I am headed, which at this stage of my career is just fantastic.

Tell us more about your track ‘Hold Me Close’.

The lyrics speak about love and the angst you may feel when you have strong feelings for someone but are unsure whether they have the same feelings for you. It’s about the longing or desire to be with that person and hold them close to you, a feeling we all have at some point in our lives I guess.
When writing this song I was really wanted to give off a fun energy that people would dig and could easily sing or dance along to. A summer song I guess!

What was the writing process like for ‘Hold Me Close’?
I co write most of my material with my Brother ZU/ZU who also produces our music. In the case of Hold Me Close, I think I came up with the basic lyrics and vocal melodies and then ZU/ZU crafted the instrumental to fit with the vibe of what I had written. We then fleshed out the song over a period of time. Luckily for us we have a home studio that is available to us 24/7 so we just head in there when we are feeling creative; which is like always haha

Will we see a new EP or Album this year?

I am planning on dropping EP in the second half of 2018. No firm dates yet, but the music is there and I can’t wait to share it!!

If so what can we expect?

Well I would say you can expect an evolving sound. I am not one to stand still and neither is ZU/ZU so we are always searching for someplace new to take the music. I have some surprises so stay tuned!!

Do you have any collaborations coming up with any up coming artists?

I am always in the mix working with other artists so you can definitely expect some collaborations coming this year.

Would you be up for collaborations if other musicians wanted one with you? and who would they have to contact?

I am always up for working with other artists.
For me i guess it all depends on their sound and the way they work.
They would just need to contact my management and then we can take a look.

Do you have gigs coming up or a tour in planning?

I am hitting the USA very soon, including a performance at this years Rolling Loud Festival in Miami. Right now we are in the middle putting together a bunch more shows while we are out in US.

If so where are you thinking of heading?

America 😉

Do you play any instruments?

I used to play drums but i haven’t had a hit on them in such a long time so I would be extremely rusty haha.

Who are your influences?

A few of my influencers would be MGK – Zayn – Linking Park

How do you get inspiration to write songs?

I get inspired mostly by life and in particular human emotion. So for me, if I am dealing with an issue in my life, then this is normally a great time for me to capitalize by writing new material. The highs and lows in life tend to get my creative juices flowing.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?

I like to take each day as it comes and not look too much into the future, but of course I hope to still be making and performing music! 🙂

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?

Watch movies haha. I absolutely love anything to do with film and fashion.
I’d say I go to the cinemas once or even twice a week haha.

What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more in to the music scene?

I honestly don’t think there was any one song that influenced my involvement in making music, it would be more like dozens of songs that influenced me along the way. But for me t was more so life experiences and expressing myself in a way that helps keep my inner spirit in balance. So I guess it became like my therapy or having my own shrink hahaha. !

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?

Enjoy the Journey and don’t dwell on the outcome.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?

Be yourself and enjoy doing what you do!! It’s easy to get lost in where you think you need to be, or worried about not reaching certain goals yet, but life is so short, so enjoy everyday and just love what you do!!!

What quote or saying do you always stick by?

Stars can only shine in Darkness

Where in your hometown is a must go to visit?

100% must visit.
My home town is 45 minutes outside of Sydney city and it is the most beautiful layed back town.

Your coming off tour;
1/ Where do you go first?
2/ Who do you see first?
3/ What do you eat first?

I usually head straight home as thats the only place id want to be after tour.
I see my family and I eat whatever my mum is cooking haha.
Anything she cooks is great, so any home cooking I look forward to!

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?

A glass of water on stage is a must for me, if i forget that we are in trouble haha.
Apart from that just all the essentials like making sure I have a microphone and it’s turned on haha. I’m Lucky that my brother is very organised and usually has everything ready.
