What is your genre of music?
Indie
Give us a little bio about you as a band and individuals.
I’ve been playing bass since I was about 9 years old, and I’m influenced by a variety of genres. I’ve played guitar since I was about 15 and I’ve picked up other instruments up along the way. It was always a dream of mine to be in a band and I find myself craving more and more as time goes by. Mosley Bar isn’t anything new in terms of the music, but when you hear our music there is certainly an identity to it which is incredibly important nowadays. Our song writing is showing signs of maturing, which I think is what we need if we ever get the chance to make something out of this one day.
Are you a signed?
No
We last chatted about your EP ‘Another Record Sleeve Ep’ earlier this year , how was the reaction.
It was good to hear positive reviews of it, but the more negative reviews tend to stick with me more. I certainly think that the first ep is a good platform to launch ourselves from for now, but I think there is plenty room for improvement for future releases. There is a lot more to our song writing than I think is shown on that ep, and we need to work on that in the future. But overall the reaction was reasonable which was pleasing.
Your now back with with a new EP ‘Royalties’ out in May, what can you tell us about it?
The songs were wrote around the same time as the original EP was being recorded, so the tracks on there will sound familiar, but the experience we have developed since show that we are steadily maturing and improving. Im really proud of Royalties, tracks like Two Apart i believe show we are the real deal and there is something genuine about us. Two Apart is by far our best track to date from my point of view, but some may disagree, that’s the best thing about this new EP. Each track is just as good as the next i guess.
How is different than your last release?
Certainly a lot more mature and grown up. To me it kind of feels like Another record sleeve part 2. I think for all who listen to it will see we have progressed, but wouldn’t say its a major step forward. We are ready for future releases to really take that next step up, to show we can really challenge bigger and more successful local/rival artists.
describe each track in two words.
Two Apart – 80’s Slick
Wide Awake – Catchy Bass
Phillip – Good tune
Chasing – decent tune.
Do you have any gigs coming up, where can fans come see you play?
Come and watch us in Wigan 12th May and check out our site at musicglue.com/mosleybar for other dates that are coming up
Do you guys have any plans for a full length album?
No chance!! Now is not the time. There are a lot of financial implications when making an album. Its expensive and time consuming work. When the time is right, and we have a larger market to sell too there will be a Mosley Bar album. Making an album would be a dream come true, but i think we need to work on getting a little bigger first. But that’s not saying we would not undertake such a project in the future, there will be one, one day for sure. But i think that will be a while of yet. We will still try and bring out new music though when we can. We are always writing.
What made you go in to music?
I just crave music, not a day in my life goes by were i don’t listen to music. I want to play music to people, and I want people to listen to my own music. One things for sure is that my life would feel pretty empty if there were no gigs in it, as I feel gigs have formed my identity now. I cant live without them. Whether its to a large crowd who have never heard of us, or to a small group who have followed us from the start. I just love it.
Do you have any festivals you will be playing this year?
I think we are lining a few up, and returning to a couple that we played last year hopefully over the summer. Check that site again for updates!
Do you play any instruments?
Bass, guitar, id love to get into playing some more piano and drums one day too.
Who are your influences?
I enjoy listening to such a wide range of artists. You can learn so much more about music when you open up and take in everything that music has to offer. For instance my biggest influences include
Fleetwood Mac, Prince, Journey(steve perry) Pink Floyd, Bon Iver, Ben Howard, Iron Maiden, Coldplay, Circa Waves, Def Leppard, The Kooks, Nothing But Thieves, The list just drags on to be honest.
If you could collaborate with one UK Artist or band who would it be and why?
I think we could do something pretty interesting with Ben Howard!
if you could collaborate with one US artist or band who would it be?
I wouldnt mind doing something with Lana Del rey, i think we could make her sound more happy.
What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more in to the music scene?
Got to be Purple Rain by prince. Music that gives you Goosebumps is the best type of music. I love the thought of standing in a big open arena and hearing prince with that incredible guitar solo in the end, thats what drove me into music. And personally When we were putting ideas together for the end of Two Apart (which has that massive end) that’s the only tune I could think about at the time.
What’s the best advice you have ever been given?
The worst days of those who enjoy what they do, are better than the best days of those who don’t.
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?
No matter how corporate the music industry seems to be getting, no matter how many artists are out there and want the same thing that you want. Its still proven that if your willing to give it all that you’ve got and put the time and effort in, there’s no saying in what you could go on to achieve.
What quote or saying do you always stick by?
Practice your craft, music is a form of art you can’t mess with. So tune up before your gig.
When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
My bass for one! My amp, leads, TUNER, and the songs haha!
Do you have social media accounts so your fans can follow you?
We’ve got Facebook, Twitter(always the best one to follow) and, Instagram!
