ELECTRONIC MUSIC ARTIST FROM THE STATES,AAALYSSA DEBOER CHATTED TO ME ABOUT HER NEW EP ‘GENESIS’ RELEASING ON THE 27TH AUGUST, CHECK OUT WHAT WAS SAID!

What is your name? Aaalyssa DeBoer. Well, it’s actually Alyssa DeBoer but everyone kept bugging me to pick a “DJ Name” so I added 2 extra A’s.

What is your genre of music?

Minimal Techno/Experimental

Give us a little bio about you.

I am a electronic music artist from Kelowna, BC. I plan on literally taking over the world.

What made you go in to music?

It just kind of happened. I can’t think of a single moment that led up to it. I’ve always had a love for music and liked to mess around. I guess it slowly just changed from fooling around to maybe I should do this with my life.

Are you a signed?

No. I would prefer not to get signed. If the opportunity arises in the future I’d only have it very limited. I don’t want to be forced to only release/do certain things.

Your releasing your brand new EP ‘Genesis’ on the 27th August, what’s the meaning behind the title?

Well the word Genesis means The Beginning which is what this is for me and the world. I love the word because it sounds so mythical which is the vibe I’m trying to give from this album. It’s the vibe I’m trying to give with my life.

Tell us more about the tracks individually.

Genesis is medieval party vibes.

Aurora Trailing is space gerbil vibes.

This is Not Reality is enchanted forest vibes.

Blue Jets and Red Sprites is 1920’s factory vibes.

Do you play any instruments?

I can just barely play piano. I can play it by memory or by using a program called Synthesis that makes it look like those music games. I can read music but not even close to fast enough to play sheet music. The funny thing is I’ve always owned a electric guitar but I’ve never learned to play it.

Who are your influences?

My main influence would be Lindsey Stirling. When I started making music I wanted to do something like what she did with mixing dubstep with classical violin. She may not have been the first to do it but the first that I have heard about it. Plus, how cute is she?

How do you get inspiration for all your tracks?

I just get myself in a good place mentally. You know how you would feel if you were, for example, just proposed to and then find out you have the winning lottery ticket? I try to get into that mindset. I listen to some great music or classical and just picture what I want to be doing and where I want to be. Once I get there I it all just comes like second nature.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?

I want to live in a castle. it’s funny you say 5 years actually, that is the point where I plan on either being at the top of the world or picking realistic expectations. Ew. I don’t like to think that far ahead rationally though. I’m just trying to figure out where I see myself next month.

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?

I don’t really have much time where I’m not doing music. When I do have spare time I either relaxing and playing video games or out getting drunk.

What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more in to the music scene?

There would be two for different moments. When I decided to do more then just dabble in making music, Hall of Fame by will.i.am really inspired me. Another song that greatly inspired me when I was stuck trying to finish songs so I could actually release them is Heroes by Måns Zelmerlöw.

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?

To just be yourself, keep your composure, and don’t overthink things.

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?

Do you. Don’t let other people influence what you do. If you like what you do, then that’s all that matters. If I listened to other people I would have given up a long time ago. I want to quote a moment in history where a famous artist had a bunch of people who didn’t like his/her music but I can’t think of any so just pretend I did, I’m sure there is one.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?

“If your dreams don’t scare you they aren’t big enough”

Who would your dream collaboration be with and why?

I would love to collaborate with BassHunter. I like literally ever song that dude has ever made. His music is so happy and always puts me in a good mood. I like to try to influence moods with my music so that would be an amazing collaboration to do.
