What is your names?

I’m Flo Taylor

What is your genre of music?

It’s pop music really, but with a dark, synth and electronic undertone.

Give us a little bio about you.

I grew up in rural Norfolk and started having singing lessons at the age of 5. My Dad listened to a lot of Ray Charles, Fleetwood Mac and Mark Knopfler and my family were all into music, my brother and I played in a band together and my sister used to sing. We used to have family music nights which were pretty special, I count myself very lucky to have a family that supports my music career. I then started solo gigging at the age of 15 but didn’t start writing until about 19.

What made you go in to music?

I feel like I was always meant to do some form of music, it was the only thing I was ever good at. I used to sing the Titanic Theme to my Mum and thankfully she saw something in it and paid for me to have singing lessons, I always loved the way music made me feel. No matter how bad my day had been or what I was going through, music always had the power to make me feel strong again.

Are you signed?

No

You are set to release your new debut single ‘ Black Water’, tell us more about it.

What was the writing process like?

The writing process was actually quite cathartic for me, the song is about something that I experienced many years ago that I never felt I dealt with properly, so it was a good coping mechanism for that encounter. I then wrote the music alongside the wonderful guys in my band and we had a lot of fun with it, the boys got to try out some fun pedals and synth sounds, so it kept them happy.

What was the recording process like?

We actually recorded the majority of this in my friend and producers home studio which he has only just set up so it was in his garage, it was also February so it was very cold and fuelled by a lot of ginger tea. It was a lot of fun though and we had a really nice weekend adding some cool parts to the mix.

What is the message you want listeners to take from the single?

I think the message I want people to take would be that whatever happens to you in your life, especially if it’s beyond your control is that you will come back stronger.

Describe the track in two words.

Deep & Dark

[Text Wrapping Break]

Who did you work on with the Single?

A fair few people, so there’s my band who recorded it, which is Harry Vernon, Mak Dawson, Andrew Thompson, Bryn Jenkins and Max Shirley. We’ve then got Adam Pardey who engineered and produced, then we’ve got Ed Farrell who produced it and Thomas Trueman who mastered it. So a lot of people to thank for this track!

Will we see a Music Video for the single, if so when and what can we expect from it.

I have been thinking about doing one because I think it would be a fun song to do a video for, so maybe next year…

Will you be releasing a New EP or Album?

I have some more songs in the pipeline for release, at the moment I’m just finishing them off, so definitely more music to come next year.

Do you have gigs coming up or a tour in planning?

I am planning to take this on the road next year for a tour.

If so where are you thinking of heading?

I’m hoping to head to Manchester, Norwich, Sheffield, Brighton and Bristol, and hopefully a few more places too.

What else can we expect from you this year?

This year not that much after this release I’m taking a little break to spend some time with my family over Christmas and next year I’m planning a lot of fun things.

Do you have any collaborations coming up with any up coming artists?

I do indeed, but you’ll have to wait and see.

Would you be up for collaborations if other musicians wanted one with you? And who would they have to contact?

Of course! I love collaborating with other artists, get in touch with me on any social media platforms.

Do you play any instruments?

I do, I play keys and guitar.

Who are your influences?

David Bowie is a huge influence of mine, probably the biggest, but as well as him, probably Prince, Florence and the Machine, BANKS and Everything Everything.

How do you get inspiration to write songs?

I always write songs about things that have happened to me, so it all comes from personal experience, I think the majority of my writing is more or less a coping mechanism and a cathartic process for me to deal with anything that has happened in my life.

Where do you see yourself in 5 Years?

I don’t like to see myself anywhere in the future, I think it distorts my view of the now. I like to think I would be gigging and making music, and thats the hope, but I want the journey to be just as memorable as the destination. I want to continue to write and release music and that’s what I’m going to keep doing until I’m ready to stop.

When you’re not doing music, what do you do?

Music is a lot of what I do day-to-day, but I love to cook, I love being outside, so walking, camping, anything where I can be with nature is great.

What was the song you listened to most that influenced you to go more in to the music scene?

I don’t think there has ever been one song that made me more interested in becoming an artist, there are lots of songs that I’ve listened to that have changed me in someway, but I’m a sucker for an album, I love the craft of it, so I would say there are definitely albums that have led me more into making music: Rumours – Fleetwood Mac, Get To Heaven – Everything Everything, Hunky Dory – David Bowie just to name a few.

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?

My Dad always used to say “Life is a series of cross roads, but you always get to where you need to be”

What advice would you give to aspiring musicians not about the industry and just as an artist?

Don’t ever change who you are.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?

Probably a quote from Bowie:

“I don’t know where I’m going from here, but I promise it wont be boring”

Where in your hometown is a must go to visit?

Norwich it’d have to be the Norwich Lanes, they’re so beautiful, on a sunny day you feel like you could be in Italy.

You’re coming off tour;

1/ Where do you go first?

Home! I miss home when I’m away and my bed is too comfy.

2/ Who do you see first?

Probably my housemates, or boyfriend if he isn’t doing photo’s for me on the tour!

3/What do you eat first?

Probably some form of Thai food, it’s definitely my favourite, so probably Tofu Phanaeng Curry.

Do you have social media accounts so your fans can follow you?

I do indeed:
