Give us a little bio about you.
Phuture Memoriez is a dark synth-pop-punk band from Vancouver BC. Their sound transitions constantly due to their desire to test new tools and techniques, ranging from lo-fi to professional. Tools like the Akai MPC Live, a cohort of digital/analog synths, pedals, noisemakers, electric bass guitar, and vocals affected by other-worldly tones and textures come into play. Alongside the sonic experience of Phuture Memoriez, visual elements come out through costume, theater-style performance, album and poster artwork, programmed lights, music videos and projections, creating a conglomerate multimedia experience.

You released your new EP ‘Coulrophobia’, tell us more about the single and the meaning behind the EP.
Coulrophobia is a split EP with Jibbernaut and Phuture Memoriez. The EP is themed around the YouTube video “Lady is scared to death of clowns”. Each band took inspiration from the video and concept of Coulrophobia to produce their songs.
The single Balloon Dog is directly influenced by the terrified lady. The video dialogue was transcribed and lyrics were transformed from there. A lesson from Mr. Giggles: “first thing they teach you in clown school kids…balloon dog”.

What was the writing and recording process like?
The project was proposed to Phuture Memoriez and Jibbernaut through the Vancouver label Nerve Wracking Collections where each band would write and record two songs. Jibbernaut were hard to reach in their compound, but once we finally made contact, the beats and clown giggles began to flow.
Clown School and No One’s Laughing Now were recorded and mixed by Gears and Hammer of Jibbernaut, in secrecy, at the Jibbernaut compound.
Phuture Memoriez wrote lyrics and sampled clips from the inspirational YouTube video for Balloon Dog and Mr. Giggles. From there, the composition and recordings were quick, fast, and dirty.

We have released a video for Balloon Dog on Youtube. The video features Mr. Giggles offering balloon dogs on the Vancouver seawall, shot guerilla style.
