What are our names?
Josh, Rom, Juan and Scruff
What is the band’s name?
The Hush.
What is your genre of music?
We make swaggering Southern-leaning Hard Rock with blues-soaked guitars, gritty attitude. Classic DNA with modern bite… and a few questionable decisions along the way.
How did you come up with the band’s name?
Rom and Josh wanted to name the band after a song from one of our favourite bands, but we didn’t want to sound like we were about to start playing covers at a pub wedding. We landed on The Hush, inspired by Deep Purple. Later we found out there was an old Australian band called Hush… luckily we don’t sound like them, don’t look like them and honestly… we haven’t listened to them, but we have heard they were great.
Give us a little bio about you.
At the core of The Hush are musicians from all walks of life.Rom is our lead vocalist and lyrical ringmaster: equal parts soul, grit, and “did he just make another questionable joke?” energy.
Josh is on guitar and co-writes the songs. Frontman at heart, tone chaser by disease, and slightly too committed to tequila. The yin to Rom’s yang… two troublemakers with great hair and worse ideas.
Juan is the newest addition on drums, playing with serious power and precision, like someone who learned early on that subtlety is optional and timing is everything.
Scruff is our unofficial-official bass player and good friend! Punk attitude, surprisingly organised, and somehow the most grounded one in the room.
Together, we’ve got chemistry, chaos, and just enough discipline to (usually) finish songs before it turns into stand-up comedy. Offstage, we’re cheeky, low-maintenance, and deeply unserious for a band that takes the music way too seriously.
What made you go into music?
For all of us, it started as an outlet more than anything. It’s the one place where everything else shuts off and we can fully lock into the moment. Different backgrounds, different paths but the same outcome. We ended up here because music is the only thing that’s ever made complete sense when nothing else did!
Who are your influences?
A bit of everything between us: blues, soul, 70’s rock and 90s grunge and hard rock. If it grooves, hits hard, or makes you turn it up… it’s in the mix.
Are you signed?
Not yet. We’re independent and seeing how far we can take this thing without someone telling us to “write a political correct apology.”
Next step is looking at booking agencies, ideally ones that don’t flinch when we turn up slightly louder than expected or say something that gets the crowd giggling.
Tell us about your new single ‘Nothin’ For Free’
It’s about ego, entitlement and the kind of people who think everyone owes them everything.
It was also inspired by the reality check that nothing, good or bad, comes without effort. Bills don’t care about your dreams, unfortunately.
Describe the track in two words.
Ballsy. Classic.
What was the writing and recording process like?
Josh wrote the guitars and some lyrics while trying to fix a broken guitar through a practice amp… which is probably the most “us” way this could’ve started. We kept it simple. Just a straight rock ‘n’ roll track that we didn’t overthink, which is rare for us because we usually overthink everything!
Who did you work with on the single?
We did 99% of it ourselves. Guitars and vocals were tracked in Josh’s home studio.
Juan tracked drums in a studio and started the mix, then we all proceeded to give “very helpful” feedback over the phone like a group of unqualified engineers with dyslexia.
Will we see a music video?
Not for this one… but give us time. We’ll eventually convince ourselves it’s a good idea and run at it headfirst.
EP or album coming?
We’ve got enough material for an EP and then some, but right now we’re focused on releasing hard-hitting singles.
Tour or live shows coming up?
We’re about 3/4 through our interstate run across Australia. We’ve taken Nothin’ For Free through Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney (with more coming), Canberra, and Newcastle.
Where can fans get tickets?
The ticketed shows for this run are done, but the upside is you can catch us live for free now! Consider it our financial apology to your wallet. Save and stream our tracks instead, it’s cheaper!
What can we expect in 2026?
More music, more behind-the-scenes chaos, and hopefully cheaper fuel (we’re not optimistic, but we’re manifesting).
Where do you see yourselves in 5 years?
Touring internationally, playing festivals, and arguing about which Van Halen era was better… but in much larger venues.
What quote or saying do you stick by?
“Overnight success takes 10 years” or “Let the music do the talking.”
Because when we start talking too much, things usually get derailed.
When you’re at a gig, what are 5 things you can’t forget?
Instruments, earplugs, setlist (which we still forget anyway), attitude… and a flask of whiskey or tequila for “tone preservation purposes.”
