INTRODUCING BELFAST ALT-ROCK FIVE PIECE ‘CONSOLERS. RELEASING THEIR DEBUT ALBUM WE GOT THE CHANCE TO CHAT ALL ABOUT IT SO GIVE OUR CHAT A READ BELOW.

What are your names?
Sonja, Daniel, Ethan, Sean & Iain

What is the band’s name?
Consolers

What is your genre of music?
Alt-rock

How did you come up with the band’s name?
We cycled through a few different names but Consolers was one we kept coming back to. It just seemed to fit and we’ve stuck with it.

Give us a little bio about you.
All five of us have been in loads of bands over the years, releasing music under our own names or in various projects. Consolers sort of merges all those influences and experiences into a new band. Some of us have known each other for years so the best part of Consolers is that we’re playing music together with our mates. We were working on these songs for a while before anybody else ever heard them, so it’s brilliant to finally have them out for people to enjoy.  Our first gig together was supporting Fangclub, and our second was supporting The Wood Burning Savages. They are both bands we really admire, so getting to play with them were huge moments for us that we really enjoyed.

What made you go into music?
For a lot of people who do music it’s not a conscious choice – it’s just something that’s in them and they can’t not do it. We all have jobs and things going on outside the band, but music will always be a big part of all of our lives.

Who are your influences?
The five of us all have different influences, and you might not even hear them in the music. We love bands like Radiohead, Wolf Alice, Gaslight Anthem, Paramore, Raconteurs, Thin Lizzy, Status Quo, Wynona Bleach, Fangclub and too many others to list!

Are you a signed?
Nope, we’re completely self-funded and DIY 🙂

You released your new album ‘Deep Breaths’, tell us more about the album and the meaning behind it.
The album was something we worked on for years before we released it. Some of the songs were kicking about since around 2020 and we just kept writing until we knew we had a really strong collection of tracks. From very early on it felt like we were definitely working on an album, rather than a set of singles or an EP.
The album is called Deep Breaths because there were so many hurdles and knock backs in the process of getting it finished. Sometimes we just had to stop, take a deep breath, and go again.

Describe each track in two words.
There’s eleven tracks, so we’ll just highlight a few:
Inhale – Huge opener
Sink On In – Dance, dance
Play – Sing along
Driving Me – Big finish

What was the writing and recording process like?
Although we were working on the album for some time before we recorded, the songs themselves usually come together pretty quickly. Usually a guitar riff and a lyric are enough to get started. Recording was much quicker, we got almost everything done over a couple of weekends. The weather was amazing too, and we were absolutely roasting, inside this sound proof studio! But it was really good fun, and it was definitely worth missing a few sunny days for.

Who did you work with on the album?
We worked with Jonny Woods. He’s the guitarist in Wynona Bleach and is a brilliant producer, mixer and engineer. He took the raw demos we had and turned them into the songs we love on the album. We’ve known him for years and always admired his music, so getting to work with him on Deep Breaths was brilliant. We also had Casey Ryan in the studio doing some photography, and Sonja’s mum did the artwork on the album cover.

If you had to describe the album in one sentence how would you describe it as a whole?
The kind of album you put on for a road trip, listen start to finish and then start over again.

Will we see  any live shows or a tour coming up or in planning, if so what can you tell us about it?
Yes, we’re playing Levels at Mandela Hall in Belfast on St Patrick’s Day. Then Enniskillen, Navan, Newry and Dundalk.

Where will we be able to  buy tickets from?
All the ticket links for the gigs are here: https://linktr.ee/Consolers

What else can we expect in 2026?
When we finish this run of gigs we’ll take a short break to write some more, and we hope to be back in the studio with Jonny later this year!

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
It took us around five years to do Deep Breaths, so hopefully it doesn’t take us that long to get another album out and play some more really fun gigs!

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
Don’t Panic.

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
When we’re playing gigs the things we can’t forget are:

  • Daniel’s pedalboard, nothing can happen without it
  • Drink plenty of water, hydration is good
  • Don’t forget to write a setlist
  • Be sound to the other bands, stick around for their sets
  • Make sure the bassist has a lift
