What is the bands name?
Sludge Mother
How did you come up with the bands name?
As a joke, honestly. I jokingly called referred to myself as “ur sludge mommy” because I love heavy, dirty, sludgy music so much. And then…it stuck haha. I’m glad it did though.
What is your genre of music?
I call it “nu grunge”. I take heavy inspiration from 90’s grunge and meld it to contemporary rock/metal/pop. But tbh call us whatever.
Give us a little bio about you.
I’m a pisces from San Diego who loves raw, intense & honest music.
Who are your influences?
Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Hole, Audioslave.
Are you a signed?
Not yet
You released your debut EP ‘How Can Anything Bloom?’, tell us more about the EP and the meaning behind it.
I usually approach every song by writing from the gut, taking inspiration from whatever I’m currently feeling, thinking or experiencing. So, when I was writing for HCAB I didn’t actually plan for there to be a cohesive meaning. I was just writing. But now listening back to it as a full project, I realize that there is common thread- growing up and seeing the world for what it is and either accepting or rebelling against those revelations.
Describe each track in two words.
IDWAJ: fuck the system (sorry 3 words)
Antidote: fuck you
Bloom: oh fuck
Machine: fucking tired
TDITL: fuck yeah
Who did you work with on the EP?
I wrote primarily with my wonderful musical wizard co-writer Tony Kim. The first song we ever wrote together was Bloom (that one was also written with Travis Miguel).
Will we see any new music videos for any of the tracks on the EP and if so what can we expect from the creative process and story.
Not sure if we will film any more music videos for this EP specifically but there will definitely be more in the future. The 90’s were so rich in incredible visuals, they inspire me constantly.
Do you have any live shows or a tour coming up or in planning, if so what can you tell us about it?
Nothing planned quite yet but playing shows is my favorite part of this job so, I have a feeling lots of shows are on the horizon.
What else can we expect in 2026?
Well….we’re currently writing for an album 😉
Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
I feel like Sludge Mother really comes to life in our live show so, I hope in 5 years we are touring a bunch. Plus, when you’re a band getting off the ground there’s a lot of things you need to juggle so I hope in 5 years I get to dedicate all my time to writing, recording & performing. Nothing else I wanna do.
What quote or saying do you always stick by?
Follow your gut. Follow the passion.
When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
My in-ears, disposable camera, throat coat tea, leather boots & american spirits (light blue).
Do you have social media accounts so your fans can follow you?
