WE GOT THE CHANCE TO CHAT WITH ‘GUS ENGLEHORN’ FROM ALASKA! FROM RIDING THE SLOPES TO TAKING CENTRE STAGE WITH HIS SONGWRITING CRAFT AND BEYOND. DIVE INTO OUR CHAT AND HEAR ALL ABOUT HIS NEW MUSIC NOW.

What is your name?
Gus Englehorn

What is your genre of music?
Singer/Songwriter/Rock

Give us a little bio about you.
I’m from a little drinking town with a fishing problem in Alaska called Ninilchik. I grew up on a hundred acre homestead of Boreal forest. I was a professional snowboarder for ten years before I started writing songs.

What made you go into music?
Smoking weed and playing guitar solos over blues backing tracks on YouTube and Bob Dylan.

Who are your influences?
The Pixies, Neil Young, Daniel Johnston, Patti Smith, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Beck, The Butthole Surfers, Nirvana, The Meat Puppets, Alfred Hitchcock, Geoffrey Chaucer, Tolkien.

Are you a signed?
I have released three records with Secret City Records out of Montreal (Death & Transfiguration, Dungeon Master, The Hornbook) and I will be releasing a new record this winter independently.

You released your latest single ‘Pepperina’, tell us more about the song and the meaning behind it.
I often imagine a little cartoon in my mind while I work on songs. When I see the cartoon images in my head that’s usually when I know a song is done. This one cropped up as two lovers tied to chairs like in an old western movie and the villain of the story is dancing about and singing this song to them because of his unrequited love for Sarah.

Describe the track in two words.
Jaw Harp

What was the writing and recording process like?
The writing was arduous as always and the recording was wonderful as usual.

Who did you work with on the track?
We worked with Paul Leary of Butthole Surfers fame. I guess dreams do come true!

Will we see any music videos before the end of the year or in early 2026 and if so what can we expect?
A music video is on the way! Shot by my loving wife and collaborator Estée Preda and I on 16mm film in our little Ohana house in Hawaii. Featuring lots of bananas.

Will we see an Album or EP in 2026 and if so, what can we expect from it and what is the meaning behind it.
I will be releasing a new album on February 27th titled The Broken Balladeer. It’s a semi-autobiographical tale of an aging unsuccessful artist whose dreams are being slowly crushed by the world but refuses to give up.

Will we see any live shows or a tour coming up or in planning, if so what can you tell us about it?
We will be touring in North America and Europe all of March and April.

Where will we be able to buy tickets from?
Linktree
BandCamp

What else can we expect in 2026?
Hopefully some more music, I’m writing all the time.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
I seem to be slowly transforming into The Dude from The Big Lebowski, so maybe bowling?

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
To the top!
