Give us a little bio about you.
We met in college at the USC Thornton School of Music, and the first time we hung out was a songwriting session for class. We ended up writing “Piece of the Sky” and becoming close friends before starting a romantic relationship. Towards the end of lockdown in LA we decided to form a country duo, and moved to Nashville the next year.
What made you go into music?
We’ve both been singing, playing, & writing music for more than half of our lives — we have other interests, but music has always been our passion.
Who are your influences?
Classic country roughly from the ‘40s through the ‘70s: Hank Williams Sr., Patsy Cline, George Jones & Tammy Wynette, Waylon Jennings & Jessi Colter, Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris, Johnny & June of course. Then we also draw on ‘90s alternative singer-songwriters like Fiona Apple, Elliott Smith, & Sparklehorse. And we love contemporary artists such as CMAT, Weyes Blood, Allegra Krieger, & Tele Novella.
Are you a signed?
Not yet!
You released your latest EP ‘The Prickly Pair’’, tell us more about the EP and the meaning behind it.
It’s meant to encompass our journey from school to Nashville & our recent wedding. It includes the first song we wrote together, other songs we wrote at USC, the first song we wrote since moving to Nashville, & some of our most recent compositions.
Who did you work with on the single?
On “Winsome Lose Some Game” we recorded nearly everything ourselves at home, and Jeff Plankenhorn added his acoustic lap steel part remotely. Same for “Swamp Angel” except Jim Doyle played the drums & percussion in LA & Irene’s brother Conor helped us record the vocals. The whole EP was mixed by our friend Oliver Roman in LA and mixed by Bobbi Giel at Welcome to 1979 studio in Nashville.
Do you have any live shows or a tour coming up or in planning, if so what can you tell us about it?
Our first show of the year is at The 5 Spot in Nashville on January 15 with our friend Misty Dawn opening.
