What is your name?
Nick Walker
What is your genre of music?
I guess you could say that it could be a little bit of anything. I’ve never tried to fit into one box but instead just tried to be inspired. You could call it Country, Pop, “Costal Country” or anything you want to but my goal has always been to be artistic with it and to create something that hasn’t been done before.
Give us a little bio about you.
I grew up in Cleveland so classic rock will always be a part of me, but then when I started playing music – I moved to Key West almost immediately. I was inspired by the spirit of the island
What made you go into music?
It never felt like I had much of a choice. It wasn’t until after college that I started playing music – but I just had always been interested in the business side of the music industry and then when I eventually got decent enough to play 30 or so songs, I basically just went head first into it and have been doing it full time for 7ish years now.
Who are your influences?
“There’s truthfully so many influences. From genres, artists, one hit wonders, songwriters and even producers it’s really hard to pin that down to just a few. Like I said, classic rock in Cleveland was always a thing for me. I always loved that but when I started playing – I really dove deep into Eagles & Tom Petty obviously. I love pop and basically anything that Eric Valentine (producer) had his hands in. James Taylor was always playing in the house too.”
“One band in particular that inspired me to start writing songs and truly inspired me to get on stage however is Old Dominion. My first trip to Nashville just visiting – I saw them playing at Wild Horse off broadway. I don’t think I was even 21 yet but ever since, I loved everything about what they were doing. The style, the harmonies, performance, the songwriting for themselves and for others, and the way they treat their fans has been really inspiring for me as an artist. It’s been really cool to grow as a fan with them and see how they’ve essentially created their own genre and (rightly so) have become the biggest band of the past decade. I play at their bar now whenever I can and it’s been really cool to have been able to say “I was there when they started” sort of thing. “
“Obviously the spirit of the islands has been a really big influence to me as well. I played at this legendary bar (Captain Tony’s) when I moved to Key West and it was hard to not be inspired by that place and the songs that seem to carry through it. Jimmy Buffett’s songwriting, Van Morrison, Kenny Chesney’s culture he created.. I’ve been very grateful to have been inspired the way that I have and I’m still inspired each and every day!”
Are you a signed?
“No. I’m fully independent and definitely looking to be signed, don’t get me wrong; but being independent and being able to do the things that Ive done has taught me a lot. I know there are valuable lessons that I’ve learned that I can take with me.”
You released your latest album ‘No Wake Zone’, tell us more about the album and the meaning behind it.
“No Wake Zone is a project that I’ve been working on for longer than I care to admit. I wanted my debut album to mean something and I’m so thrilled that it came together the way that it did. It really reflects my journey from the beginning and I honestly couldn’t be more proud of it. The first song uses a sample (that I recorded the sample on a Fisher Price record player) of the song “Sleep Walk” by Santo & Johnny (1959) and the song “No Wake Zone” itself isn’t about water but about being careless and lazy, just sleeping in and taking your time. So in a sense I wanted “No Wake Zone” to be more of a vibe and not just a song. The whole thing was meant to be played from front to back and truly somewhere that you step inside to escape. It was inspired by just about every one of the inspirations that I just mentioned also. It’s been so rewarding to have that album, the artwork and just in general a full cohesive work of art that I can be proud of and to call my own. “
Describe each track in two words.
- No Wake Zone – Presently dreaming
- Me Or Mexico – Love or tequila?
- Slow Down – “Slow down”
- 4Runner – Go back
- High Life – high friends in low places
- Soak Up The Sun – Sheryl Crow
- Sunset The Mood – warm night time vibes
- Let’s Get Out Of Here – anywhere else
- Tip Toes – living room dancing
- Queen The Keys – Island Love
- Jimmy Buffett – inspired forethought
What was the writing and recording process like?
“ It definitely wasn’t the traditional sense of doing things all in one week or one week of sessions. I recorded a batch of 11 songs with Greg Collins who is absolutely incredible. I was able to work with absolute world class musicians and it was just a really great experience. It was an honor to work with Greg and just be under his wing. When they all came together – I sort of realized that some of the songs we had were a certain type of vibe and the others were another, so I ended up recording a few others at another studio (Grady Saxman) and sort of filled out the project with a different vision than I had originally thought. Which is where No Wake Zone ended up coming in and the album became more of a concept than just a collection of songs. “
Who did you work with on the song?
“ Obviously those mentioned but then there were 10 other songwriters that I wrote with on these 11 songs. “
Will we see any music videos before the end of the year or in early 2026 and if so what can we expect?
“Yes! We’re set to film a music video for High Life and No Wake Zone early in 2026. The last song on the album (Jimmy Buffett) I’m doing something a little special for that one. So I’ll be putting together the video and it’s sort of a memory lane in Key West project that I’m really looking forward to getting done. “
Do you have any live shows or a tour coming up or in planning, if so what can you tell us about it?
“ Yes I’m playing a lot in Nashville on Broadway for the time being, but I’m trying to hit the road with the band in 2026. There’s a few dates in the early Q1 but Spring/Summer is what were really trying to hit hard filling out the calendar now for “
Where can we buy tickets from?
When I have them, they’ll be on my website at www.nickwalkerofficial.com or just about all of my socials should take you to the same place.
What else can we expect in 2026?
Definitely a whole lot more of my music. I’m having a great time promoting and playing this album, but at the same time – I already have a good batch of songs ready to roll too. Maybe by the end of 2026 but I do have two other albums in the works.
Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
I really just see myself making a difference in 5 years. I don’t necessarily know if that means headlining, opening up for somebody or just releasing more music – but my goal has always been to make an impact and hopefully 5 years from now the right things have been done to reach the audience that can help me make a real difference in the world.
What quote or saying do you always stick by?
You win or you learn. Things aren’t going to go your way most of the time – but there’s no such things as losing if you can learn something or if there’s a lesson learned in doing so.
When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
1/ The reason that I’m there. Its easy when you’re playing the same covers all the time to get a little jaded and for it to feel like work, but its really important to remember the first time you ever got on the stage and why.
2/ That music makes a difference. We’ve all been touched by a song at some point of our lives and I always try to play my songs with conviction and hope that it can change somebody’s day.
3/ I can’t ever forget to keep dreaming. Giving up is easy. I’m going to be told no about 1000x more than I’m told yes and there’s hills to climb. Being an artist isn’t for the faint of heart but I also believe that being an artist isn’t a choice. It’s something I was born to do and I’ve gotta keep believing no matter how hard it might seem
4/ To be authentic. It’s easy to be who you think everyone else wants you to be, but at some point – people start to see through that.
5/ Most importantly I cannot forget that being an artist and the ability to tell my story & create music is life changing. We have the ability to change the world and I have an opportunity to inspire and that’s something that I just don’t want to ever take for granted.
