What is  your names?
Lauren Ash

What is your genre of music?
I classify it as pop punk but some people feel like it could also be pop rock.

Give us a little bio about you.
I’m a proud Canadian, born and raised in Belleville, Ontario. As a performer, I’m mostly known for my acting work. After a successful run performing sketch comedy and improv at The Second City on both the Toronto and Chicago mainstages, I booked my first American sitcom “Super Fun Night” that ran for a season on ABC. After that, my career highlights include playing Dina Fox on NBC’s “Superstore” for 6 seasons and Lexi Rhodes on ABC’s “Not Dead Yet” for 2 seasons. I’ve also voiced many characters on animated series including Scorpia on Netflix’s “She-Ra and the Princesses of Power”, Beryl on Disney’s “Kiff” and Diane on Netflix’s “Chicago Party Aunt”. In 2023, I released my first single “Now I Know” which reached #1 on the Canadian iTunes rock chart and debuted at #5 on Billboard’s Alternative Download chart.  I performed my original pop punk Christmas song “Sad This Christmas” on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” in 2023 and spoke to Jimmy Kimmel about my music on his show in 2023 as well. I’ve headlined at The Viper Room and Whisky A Go Go in LA as well at The Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto. My song Whiplash was nominated for a 2025 Hollywood Independent Music Award and my music has been written about in various publications including Us Weekly, Earmilk, Billboard Magazine, Hello Canada and more.

What made you go into music?
I started writing songs when I was 13. Music has always been a big part of my life. When I was performing on the Second City Mainstages, both in Toronto and Chicago, I always had a comedy song in every show we wrote. But in terms of non-comedy music, I have always written songs in my spare time. In 2023, I decided it was time to finally pursue getting my songs out of my living room and out into the world.

Who are your influences?
Late 90s/early 2000s is definitely my fave era of music. Blink 182 is a huge influence. Hole, Bif Naked, No Doubt, The Offspring, Gob, Alanis, Tori Amos. I’m also a massive fan of classics like Queen, Aerosmith and Bon Jovi. Currently, I can’t get enough of Yungblud, Ecca Vandal, Winona Fighter, Lights and Kenny Hoopla.

Are you a signed?
I am a completely independent artist.

You released your new album ‘Call Me When You Get This’ tell us more about the album  and the meaning behind it.
The album came out Sept 11th of this year. The record follows my journey unfolding the emotional wreckage from the unexpected collapse of a significant relationship. I trace the chaos and clarity that followed the split by using real audio moments I recorded of myself throughout the breakup. These authentic, uncensored moments are woven between songs, blurring the line between life and art. The title of the album is in reference to the final spoken interlude on the album where it’s revealed that the entire record was actually one long voicemail I left for my ex.

Describe each track in two words.
DIET COKE AND LEXAPRO – heartbreaking, out-of-body
BLOW IT UP – cheeky, sarcastic
DUMPSTER FIRE – sexy, driving
WHIPLASH – loud, anger
COOL STORY BRO – revenge, resurrection
WALK AWAY – love, resignation
THE DAY I GOT OVER YOU – triumphant, funny

What was the writing and recording process like?
We had written a couple songs before my breakup happened. But once it did, I told the guys “buckle in, it’s time for us to write my Jagged Little Pill”. I really love the collaboration process in songwriting. There’s nothing better than trying to figure out a song with some people who you enjoy working with. It’s like you’re all trying to figure out a puzzle together and when you find a piece that fits, it’s SO satisfying. I love the writing process.

Who did you work with on the album?
I wrote all the songs on the album with Aaron Verdonk and Jesse Colburn. They produced all the songs as well. Jesse also mixed all the songs and Kristian Montano mastered all the songs.

Will we see any music videos for any of the tracks and if so what can we expect from the creative process?
There are already music videos for Whiplash, Cool Story Bro, Dumpster Fire and most recently Diet Coke and Lexapro! All are available to watch on my YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@laurenashmusic

Do you have any live shows or a tour coming up or in planning, if so what can you tell us about it?
My first headlining tour is happening in October and November! 10 dates across Ontario and Quebec! I’m very excited to play all my songs live for people. We’ve created a really fun show with lots of elements that I’m sure will surprise people.

Where can we buy tickets from?
Tickets to all shows are available at laurenash.band

What else can we expect in 2025?
I think once I get the tour finished I’ll be taking some time off for the holidays. But in 2026 you can expect new music and hopefully more tour dates!

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
That’s a great question! Honestly, I am someone who has a terrible habit of living in the future. I’ve often felt like my “real life” will only start once I reach certain goals. But what I’ve learned is that we are all living our “real lives” all the time! I can’t always be worried about what’s happening next when tomorrow is never promised. For now, I’m trying to focus on the present and approach everything one day at a time.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
“Living well is the best revenge” and “Better is the enemy of good”.

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
My vocal steamer, Cepacol lozenges, Granny Smith apples, hot water and lemon, and a stash of candy as my post-show reward.
