What are your names?
David Smith. Fraser Marr. Jonathan Morley. Ross Hunter. Stuart Emms. Robin Gatcum
What is the bands name?
Gypsy’s Kiss
How did you come up with the bands name?
The band was formed in the East End of London. It is rhyming slang. Ahem.
What is your genre of music?
Gypsy’s Kiss play Classic Rock as if from the 70s with a modern twist. We hope….
Give us a little bio about you for those new to your music.
The band was formed in 1974 by David Smith and his great friend Steve Harris. When the band broke up Steve Harris formed Iron Maiden. We can all see why! Gypsy’s Kiss re-formed in 2018 after being asked back for many many manymany years. The new line up plays some of the old songs but now has released 1 x ep and 2 x albums and is gigging regularly. We play entertaining heavy rock. People seem to like it!
What made you go into music?
There is no other reason than the love of it and OF COURSE performing it in front of a great audience.
Who are your influences?
The band have different influences but we all agree on Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, UFO, Thin Lizzy and all the other great classic rock icons.
Are you a signed?
No. We have had interest and the inevitable bad deal but it’s better doing this as an independent. For now at least. We remain open to offers!
You released your album ‘Piece By Piece’, tell us more about the album and the meaning behind it.
Piece by Piece is about being the sum off all the different parts. It’s all the pieces fitting to make one complete picture. There’s 6 of us. A lot to fit in any where.
Describe each track in two words.
War of the World – Serious. Warning.
Yes Yes Yes – Heavy. Riff.
Spirit of Lost Years – Wanting. Remembering.
One Way Street – Lost. Found.
A Soldier’s Tale – Sad. Remembrance.
Never Say Never Again – Believe. Dedication.
Electrify Me – Shock. Mystery.
Living To Die – Feel. Breathe
We’ve Come to Play – Dream. Imagine.
Watcher – Danger. Help.
The Entertainer – Tragic. Comedic.
Jack for all Times – Historic. Modern.
What was the writing and recording process like?
The writing was done by coming up with ideas and introducing them to the band. They were developed in rehearsal and on the inevitable computer. The recording was done in the studio and some was remotely done; as is the modern way! There were arguments and agreements. We got there in the end.
Who did you work with on the album
We worked on the album at Pearce’s Farm Studio just outside Wokingham. It was produced by the very talented Ian Turner.
What is the album message for your fans?
Hopefully anyone listening will find some interesting songs here. It deals with timeless issues for sure but it’s really a rock n roll album to turn up very loud and annoy the neighbours. Then get the neighbours to like it and buy it please.
Do you have any live shows coming up?
Yes we do! August 9th The Cavern in Raynes Park London. Sept 5th The Nene Valley Rock Festival. Oct 3rd Cornwall Rocks Festival. Oct 17th Esquires in Bedford. Oct 18th The Factory in Worthing. Oct 19th The Cavern in Raynes Park London (all 3 gigs with Praying Mantis). Nov 7th Whitby Rocks. Nov 8th HRH Festival. Nov 28th The Carlisle in Hastings (with Stray). Nove 29th Winterstorm Festival. What else can we expect in 2025?
More recorded music if we can fit it in and more live shows in the UK and Europe. We love to play.
Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
That seems a long way off in the current climate. It’s tough being in music right now. We will take each year as it comes and hopefully everyone will stick with us.
What quote or saying do you always stick by?
Always stay interesting and always entertain. Do the very best you can. Come up with something that feels new. Do not be too serious. Have fun. Rock.
When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
The audience, The crowd, The people, The fans, The music!
Do you have social media accounts so your fans can follow you?
