What is your name?
goodheart
What is your genre of music?
indie rock with singer-songwriter and pop elements
Give us a little bio about you.
I’m goodheart — a singer, songwriter, and producer based in Toronto. I make indie rock/pop that leans into big feelings, blending honest lyrics with dreamy textures and a little grit.
I started writing songs when I was a kid, and in university I began producing and performing with friends. Since then, I’ve received support from FACTOR and the Ontario Arts Council, and my music’s reached over 55k streams on Spotify and 145k views on YouTube.
Producing became a huge part of how I shape my sound — and it made me realize how few women I saw doing the same. I want to be part of changing that.
My latest project, Blue and Other Colours, is out now.
What made you go into music?
It’s always been how I process life. I started writing songs when I didn’t have the words for what I was feeling — and I just never stopped. Music has always been my way to make sense of things and find voice to my feelings.
Who are your influences?
These days, I’m really into Haim, Maggie Rogers, and Phoebe Bridgers.
Are you signed?
I’m indie 🙂
You released your new single ‘Stuck In The Cloud’, tell us more about the single and the meaning behind it.
I wrote Stuck In The Cloud during a week where I’d been home alone a little too long. It wasn’t quite full-blown cabin fever — more that weird, in-between feeling where time blurs and everything just feels… meh. I was supposed to be working on another track but kept hitting a wall, so I took a detour and started messing around and that’s when this song was born.
Describe the track in two words.
Energetic, bright, restless (I snuck in a third!)
What was the writing and recording process like?
It started as a soft, moody acoustic demo, but in the studio, Connor and David flipped it with these upbeat, driving drums and it really just clicked into place. Ryan added a bouncy bassline back at my home setup, and from there I built it out with guitars from Mitch and myself. Lyrically, it walks the line between existential dread and everyday moments, like doomscrolling — I wanted it to have a weird mix of big feelings in small spaces.
Who did you work with on the song?
My bandmates Mitch Holmes (guitar), Ryan Cowan (bass/keys), and Connor MacArthur (drums) all helped bring it to life. David Matta mixed it, and Kristian Montano did the mastering. I’m lucky to have such a solid team.
You released the official music video, tell us about the creative process of making it.
The Stuck In The Cloud video came together really last minute, in the best way. My friend Bryce (who directed it) texted me on a Friday saying his friend had an empty apartment we could shoot in, but we’d have to do it that weekend. So we pulled a tiny crew together and just ran with it. There was no storyboard or plan, we built the concept on the spot based on how the space felt. It was super DIY, just a bunch of friends experimenting, making something weird, fun and honest out of a tiny space. Which felt really true to how the song was made too. You can check out some BTS from the shoot on my Instagram.
We are also expected to see a brand new EP ‘ Blue and Other Colours’, what can we expect from it?
It’s five tracks that explore different shades of sadness — some loud, some quiet, all honest. There’s emotion in every corner of the EP, but it’s not all doom and gloom. There’s hope tucked in there too.
Describe each track in two words.
If I were to go by theme, I’d say:
Casey – disconnection, addiction
Horses – longing, intimate
Stuck in a Cloud – apathy, detachment
Silverspoon Sunday – privilege, passivity
Funeral – unrequited, guilt
Do you have any live shows coming up?
Nothing currently, but stay tuned for this fall!
Let us know where we can get tickets if so.
Everything I do is posted on my instagram, so it’ll be announced there first thing!
What else can we expect in 2025?
More videos on my youtube! and maaaybe even another song or two 😉
Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Hopefully still making music I care about, connecting with more people, and touring. Just doing this on a bigger scale.
What quote or saying do you always stick by?
You can’t edit while you write. Get it all out, all ideas on the page, and then go from there.
When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
Bandmates (ha!), water bottle, tuner pedal, setlist, and a good pre-show stretch.
Do you have social media accounts so your fans can follow you?
Yes! You can find me on Instagram, Youtube, and Tiktok @soundslikegoodheart — that’s where I post updates, behind-the-scenes stuff, and bad selfies.
