What is your name?
Megan Nadin
What is your genre of music?
It’s actually changed a little since we last spoke! If I HAD to pick, I’d say my genre of music is a mix of Indie Pop and Alternative. I don’t like labelling my music as any genre really. Whenever I write a song, its driven by a feeling more so than going for a specific genre or sound.
Give us a little bio about you.
I was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario. A small city in Canada that I spent most of my life in and I’m proud to call home. Family is everything to me and music is a close second. I grew up surrounded by music and fell in love with writing songs at a very young age after being influenced by my music loving, songwriting, songbird of a grandmother. However, it wasn’t until later in life that I realized sharing my music with the world was something I wanted to do.
What made you go into music?
The thing that made me pursue music was the encouragement from family and friends to start sharing my passion of songwriting and singing. Eventually it led me to a writing contract that had me make the move to Nashville, where I currently reside in pursuit of bringing the songs I write to life.
Who are your influences?
I have a pretty eclectic taste in music so I find myself listening to a wide range of artists and genres that I believe all play a role in influencing my music, songwriting and sound. As I get deeper into my journey as a songwriter I’ve realized I’ve been quite influenced by Canadian Singer-Songwriters and artists such as Avril Lavigne, Alanis Morissette and Celine Dion; Storytellers The Beatles and Goo Goo Dolls; Harmony heavy band ABBA and Upbeat, anthemic girl band Spice Girls.
Are you a signed artist?
As of now, I’m completely independent!
You recently released Single ‘MAKE IT OUT ALIVE’ , tell us more about the single and the meaning behind the song.
MAKE IT OUT ALIVE is an anthem about overcoming the pressures, hardships and obstacles we’re faced with in life and society alike. It’s about reflecting and navigating experiences we have that test who we are, speaking up for what we believe in and coming out on the other side standing in the power we hold that we sometimes lose sight of.”
Describe the track in two words.
Empowering and Anthemic
What was the writing and recording process like?
Writing the song was very therapeutic for me. A friend and fellow songwriter came to me with the song title Make It Out Alive. Immediately I knew It was a concept I wanted to use to unpack the weight of everything I had been feeling for far too long. Make it out alive quickly went from a song title that spoke a million words, to a song that helped me feel hopeful. When it came to finally recording the song, it was the first time I had FULL creative control of the production of my music. There was a lot of exploring and experimenting that happened, which made the whole process so much FUN!
Who did you work on the single with?
I wrote the song with Singer-Songwriter Mariah Counts and brought the track to life with Producer and Musician Willy Sinclair.
Can we expect a music video and if so tell us more about the making.
There isn’t a music video for this one… but I do have one ready to go for the following single “HIGH” that I’m super excited about!
Can we expect an Album or EP and If so, what can we expect from it?
As of now, no Albums or EP’s anytime soon… However I have so much new music waiting to be released and I plan to release an abundance of music in 2025 that may just lead to an album.
Do you have any live shows coming up?
I have a few writer’s rounds booked around Nashville, TN throughout the end of 2024. What’s got me most excited, is that I’m working with a band to gear up and start playing live shows in the New Year of 2025!
What else can we expect in 2024?
I’ve been writing and producing like crazy so I plan to release some more music before the year ends.
Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
I don’t know where exactly I see myself in 5 years to be honest. I just know wherever life takes me, I will always be writing, creating and making music. I will also always be finding ways to amalgamate my passions of music, advocacy and activism; bringing awareness to organizations and causes that work towards making positive change, as well as people that deserve a platform and voice.
What quote or saying do you always stick by?
Incredible things happen when you step into fear and just keep showing up.
