What is your name?
Nathan Jacques
What is your genre of music?
Could fall into an assortment of genres but for a broad stroke let’s say Americana.
Give us a little bio about you.
I’m a singer/songwriter from New England now living in Los Angeles. I like writing story-driven Western songs and creating worlds within and around those songs.
What made you go into music?
Got the music bug when I was a kid and simply had to do it no matter what. Still feel that way.
Who are your influences?
Marty Robbins, Willie Nelson, Elvis, Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, Bobby Bare, Eddy Arnold, Lord Huron, Justin Townes Earle to name a few…
Are you a signed?
Just my own, Hidden Mountain Records.
You released your latest Single ‘All I See’, tell us more about the single and the meaning behind the song.
“All I See” is about saying goodbye, I love you. It’s the closing scene to long, hard-fought journey and a bittersweet lullaby to the one you love. A dark, yet blissfully reflective farewell nestled in a jaunty tune.
Describe the track in two words.
Smile crying
Who did you work with on the single?
My kickass band and producer.
We also see a music video for ‘All I See’. Tell us more about the creative process and making of it.
This video is the final scene of the fictitious movie the concept is built around. The director, Christopher Macken, and I wanted it to be an homage to old Westerns in aesthetic and tone while keeping the mood painfully bittersweet. Our amazing production designer Denver Stoddard built this gorgeous set in front of a vintage huge hollywood backdrop to truly make it feel like an old Western film. It took a lot of incredibly talented people to make what you see in the final product.
Can we expect an Album or EP and If so, what can we expect form it?
My album Bounty Heart is due out 26th September.
Hopefully to experience a record you can fully lose yourself in. Set out to make a concept record with the most encompassing world possible so please dive in as deep as you’d like to go.
The writing and recording:
Purposefully slow and methodical but endlessly exciting. I wrote everything and then brought it to my amazing band where we built the songs up to their full-band sound. We then recorded live as a full band in studio for the foundation of the record and overdubbed on top of that. Ed Donnelly, my producer, and I had a blast creating the exact record we dreamed it could be.
Do you have any live shows coming up?
We’re always playing around town in Los Angeles and hopefully touring more and more as time goes on!
Let us know where we can get tickets if so.
