What is your name?
My name is Amber Elara,
What is your genre of music?
Alternative rock / pop
Give us a little bio about you.
I am a 23-year-old alternative rock / pop artist from Liverpool. I am a multi-instrumentalist, classically trained in piano and have been singing and songwriting for 7 years. I have been playing the piano since I was 8 years old and was initially trained in classical music, when I grew up, I fell in love with Rock and Roll and settled into my own style of song writing, combining the technical elements of classical music with the raw emotion and grit of Rock. I studied music at college and uni and received a BA (Hons) Degree in music performance at LMA university and have been working as a self-employed musician since then. I have been gigging in and around Liverpool for the past couple of years and have collaborated with ‘Zenith’ on a couple of songs. Now I have released my debut single ‘Heart’ which is out and available on all platforms along with a music video on YouTube.
What made you go into music?
My music career began when I was 8 years old, I loved to dance and sing and wanted to learn an instrument. Initially I wanted to learn how to play the guitar but my grandma encouraged me to learn the piano. She paid for my lessons and she is the reason why to this day I love to make music. If not for her, my music would sound completely different because piano and synth is such an integral part in my song writing. Huge shoutout to my childhood piano teacher Miss Diane.”
Who are your influences?
I take influence in my music from artists such as Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Jeff Buckley, Sam Fender, The Beatles etc…
You released your latest Single ‘Heart’, tell us more about the single and the meaning behind the song.
“‘Heart’ is my debut single, which is heavily influenced musically by my favourite band Pink Floyd. Around the time I wrote this song I also had just discovered the album ‘Grace’ by Jeff Buckley which is now one of my favourites. So lyrically and musically there is definitely some Buckley vibes going on too. The song is about love. Wanting for someone that hurts you, giving every part of yourself to someone that gives you the bare minimum back. It’s a ‘heart’- break song.”
Describe the track in two words.
Catchy, Unique
Who did you work with on the single?
“My amazing guitarist ‘George Gimblett’ recorded all the guitar parts and he also played drums on the track, my good friend ‘Lewis Allan’ layed down the bass and the track was mixed by Joe Sage and mastered by Stephen Kerrison.”
Can we expect an album or an EP and if so what can we expect from it?
“The EP is written and ready to go, but first there will be a few more singles dropping from it. I don’t want to give too much away about the songs I have selected to appear on the EP but the short album as a whole is inspired by my own personal experiences with love. Love is so easily relatable to audiences so I find it the easiest to write about and I hope that people can relate to something from one of my songs. Expect lots of beautiful psychedelic-eke synth contrasted with a bad-ass distorted guitar.”
Do you have any live shows coming up?
“You can always find me playing around Liverpool, even when I don’t have a gig lined up I’m always trying out new material at open mic nights. I just had my single launch gig this weekend so more shows will be announced soon. If you want to find out where I am next, follow me on any of my socials @AmberElara”
What else can we expect in 2024?
“‘Heart’ is only the beginning of my journey, I will be releasing my second single very shortly and preparing for a small tour next year when my EP drops.”
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
“My main goal in my music career will always be just to create something that I can be proud of. I simply love to make music. I want to write and release music. Of course I want to make it big, I want everyone to know my name. I want my songs in the charts and I want to play to sold out shows of thousands of people. That’s all a part of my plan. I certainly want to be touring with a band. Should have an album or two out by then, hopefully get a song or two in the charts? I think as long as I am still creating music that I like, and not for other people, I will be happy.”
What’s a quote or saying you always stick by?
“Only look behind you to see how far you’ve come.”
When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
“Well I’ll start with the obvious things like my keyboard and mic haha, water of corse. Hydration is key. A set-list because I’m always forgetting the order of my set, and finally my parents. My Dad is at every single one of my gigs, he is my roadie, my biggest supporter, my best friend. He calms me down when I’m nervous. My Mum can’t get through one of my shows without shedding a tear. She is so proud of me and always cheers the loudest. I love her with all of my heart. Everything I do is to make my parents proud and family means everything to me.”
