Calliope Wren

Give us a little bio about you.
Long Island, Born and Raised Singer, Songwriter, Performer, and Mental Health Advocate. I write the words people struggle today, I sing feelings people struggle to feel (including myself). My big voice and presence capture people and connect me to them. She has performed at various popular venues and festivals around and outside New york; such as Patchogue Theater, 89north, Heckscher Park on the Chapin Rainbow Stage, Amityville Music Hall Spotlight at The Paramount, Jones Beach Bandshell, The Bowery Electric, The Friars Club, Stereo Garden and Montauk Music Festival.

What made you go into music?
I grew up in a house where music was always playing, Celine Dion, Kelly Clarkson, Heart, Disney Movies, Showtunes.. All very powerful stuff to grow up on. I always loved to write poems and stories too so as soon as I could, I was making up songs, singing all the time. I grew up doing a lot of theatre which helped my love of performing grow too. Watching influences of mine be great, has made me want to be great and has made me feel capable of achieving that.

Who are your influences?
Paramore, Demi Lovato, FLETCHER.

Are you a signed?
No

You released your latest Single ‘Fading’, tell us more about the single and the meaning behind the song.
Fading is about letting go of control. submission to the universe. the lonely, uncomfortable, blissful journey of oneself.

Describe the track in two words.
Blissful. Reincarnation.

What was the writing and recording process like?
At the time I wrote Fading, I was undergoing a lot of serious changes around me and within me.. I made the choice to leave a 4 year long relationship, to leave college (where I was majoring in Musical Theatre), to dive deeper within exploring myself and my sexuality.. so many different things. Writing it felt freeing, like I was letting go of everything I thought I should be, and embracing everything I was and knew I could be.

Who did you work with on the single?
I’ve been building the song up with my backing band (@wrensband on instagram) in rehearsals and live in shows for 3 years and then went to WestFalls Recording Studio (@westfallsrecordings) where I connected with the very talented Anthony Lopardo (@lopardomusic) to bring the song to life.

Can we expect a music video and if so tell us more about the making.
You can! The video will be out everywhere July 19th. I worked on this video with Celia Werner of CW Productions (@celia_werner). The video portrays illusion and the switch between reality and fantasy/what you’ve convinced yourself to be reality. Dark (woods) and Light (white room). Starting separate then colliding together.

The comfortability that is the light.. The peace is what we start out with, what I’m still holding onto.. It’s easy, bright, comfortable, safe and fluffy. Soft. Like a cloud. The woods represent the cold, darkness life could bring..the realness of it all. but without one, there isn’t the other.

Can we expect an Album or EP and If so, what can we expect form it?
I think an EP. There’s still so much work to do but my team and I have a steady plan to give you guys something absolutely breathtaking.
