What is your band name?
The Neighbourhood Watch
You released your latest Single ‘Lifeline’, tell us more about the single and the meaning behind the song.
‘Lifeline’ is about living with an illness; learning how to fit it into your heart without letting your heart break. It’s a very personal song that I wrote at a dark moment. A lot of it is inspired by Daniel Sherrell’s writing in ‘Warmth’ and Kazuo Ishiguro.
Describe the track in two words.
Hope filled.
What was the writing and recording process like?
Unlike our other tracks, I started with the lyrics. I remember writing it on my phone while walking to work in the dead of winter. My hands were freezing during a Montreal January, but I had these lyrics in my head that I knew I needed to get out. The recording process was great. The guys knew what the song needed, and it came out great.
Who did you work with on the single?
We worked with the brilliant Victor Zhang as a Producer (along with my brother Ethan), John Critchley for recording and engineering, Brendan Thomas and Madeleine Kay for the strings arrangement, and Matthew Manifould on the mix.
Can we expect an Album or EP in the near future? And If so, what can we expect from it?
Yes, you can! I hope that listeners will feel like it’s a maturation in our music that reflects growth and simplicity.
Do you have any live shows coming up?
This fall! Keep an eye out.
What else can we expect in 2024?
Some great videos, and some experiments.
Where do you see the band in 5 Years?
Just being together, as friends, making music that brings us joy.
Do you have a quote or saying do you always stick by?
Collaborate with your limitations.
When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
Can’t forget to do our pre-show ritual, eat blueberries, get stressed, joke around cause we’re about to have fun, and call ourselves the worst band we know.
