Give us a little bio about you.
My name is Vicki Lovelee and I’m a Chinese Canadian alt-pop artist and songwriter, based in Markham, Ontario. My music combines pop with dark drama and orchestral sounds. I write about the labyrinth of struggles, self-growth, acceptance, mental health, religion, and heartbreak. I’m a huge advocate for mental health awareness and believe in the acceptance of all cultures and identities. I want my music to help turn painful experiences into empowering anthems. As an independent artist, I’ve garnered over 90K streams on music platforms and have performed at events like Breaking Sound Canada, Taste of Asia, and Durham Pride. And I’m currently working on a new album for Fall 2024!
What made you go into music?
I’ve always been a creative person since I was young. I loved music, performing, fashion and the arts. I’ve always wanted to release my own music but never had the courage to. And when I finally released my first single in 2019, I remember that feeling so vividly. It’s like I finally felt what I was meant to do and decided to give it my all and see where this journey takes me!
Who are your influences?
I’m inspired by artists like Lady Gaga, Melanie Martinez, MARINA, Mitski, Freddie Mercury and Phantom of the Opera.
Are you a signed?
Nope – I’m an independent artist!
You released your new latest Single ‘Click’, tell us more about the single and the meaning behind
the song.
Click is about feeling like an outsider and wanting to fit in with a clique. But no matter what you do or how hard you try, nothing ever clicks. It’s such a frustrating feeling but I still wanted the production to stay upbeat. I want listeners to have fun while listening to this song!
Describe the track in two words.
Upbeat yet Moody.
What was the writing and recording process like?
I first came up with the song title Click. I always felt like no matter how hard I try, nothing I do ever clicks. So i really liked that word. When you hear the word “click” you usually think of 3 different contexts for the word, but they all relate to the meaning of the song.
Click: for pieces to fit together. And in this case, I’m not clicking with certain people
Click: Computer mouse click. The song works in this context too because when you click on something on the computer, you’re choosing something to select. And it’s the same for the meaning of the song – the feeling of wanting to be chosen; to be “clicked” on.
The final word is clique: a group of people with shared interests who don’t let others join. We say clique in the same way as click, and that’s why I wanted to name the song Click – because no matter what context you interpret it as, it still means the same in the song.
Who did you work with on the single?
I worked with my producer, Jonathan Karkar. We co-wrote and produced the song together.
We are also expected to see an album this fall, what can you tell us about the inspiration behind
these.
My next album will mark a new phase. It’s about reclaiming our confidence back and embracing all types of stronger emotions like anger, pettiness and jealousy.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
I want to be recognized in the Canadian music scene. Whether that’s winning a JUNO, playing bigger shows and festivals, and working with other Canadian artists and creatives. I just want to share my music and art with every single person I meet and see who connects with it.
What quote or saying do you always stick by?
THE LAW OF ATTRACTION. Lately I’ve been thinking about this mantra a lot! Whatever I feel and think, will be returned back to me.
