What is the bands name?
Press Your Luck
How did you come up with the bands name?
I was watching a movie in my hotel room while on tour and heard the phrase “press your luck” and I thought huh, thats cool!
What is your genre of music?
We are in the vein of pop-punk/emo with metal/hardcore influences
Give us a little bio about you.
We are a group of close friends that have known each other for the better part of our lives. We started writing more seriously for this project during the pandemic of 2020. We recorded the first few songs that really spoke to us, and that became the “Painfully Aware” EP
What made you go into music?
Jim and I (Ricky) are cousins and we came from a family that is very rooted in its love for music. We’re also quite close in age and grew up listening to a lot of the same bands and forming each other’s musical tastes as well as teaching one another how to play guitar. So naturally, we started playing in bands together, and the rest is history.
Who are your influences?
For me, its all over the place, but the artists I’ve always had as a constant in my playlist are bands like New Found Glory, The Story So Far, A Day To Remember, The Wonder Years, and Four Year Strong.
Are you a signed?
Not at the moment, no.
You released your new single ‘Tell Me Why’, tell us more about the single and the meaning behind the song.
The song was actually written a decade ago after a break up with an ex. When we started writing for this group we took a look at all the ideas we’ve had locked up in the vault, trying to find inspiration, and this had been one that was on the back burner for quite some time. Originally, this song was just a hook, but after Jim and the guys worked their magic on the song’s structure, it flows a lot better now and I’m really proud of the way this one turned out.
Describe the track in two words.
Nostalgic and catchy
What was the writing and recording process like?
Like I said, we started with a pretty good foundation of a song, and after working it out for a while at our jam spot, we took it into the studio where our good friend Dave recorded it and actually helped us work out some kinks we were having towards the end of the track.
Who did you work with on the single?
Dave Miseveth from Tuxedo Ave Studios in Roseville, MI
Will we see a music video for ‘Tell Me Why’, if so tell us more about the creative process from the planning to shooting.
No, not right away at least. Our focus has been more directed at making sure our live set is as tight as it can be for this summer’s set of shows.
Can we expect an EP or Album and if so, what can we expect from it.
Yes! We are going back into the studio very soon! The new songs have a bit of a different flavor to them, as we are still trying to hone in on our sound, but you can expect to hear much of the same nuances that make up PYL.
Do you have any live shows coming up?
Yes, we have a lot of things planned for this summer/fall season Let us know where we can get tickets if so. As soon as we confirm what we’ve got in the works, we will be sure to let the public know.
What else can we expect in early 2023?
Right now our sights are set on touring as much as possible and heading to the studio in September to record the next batch of songs.
Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
I see us having a much broader fan base and touring on a larger scale
What quote or saying do you always stick by?
“The way you do anything, is the way you do everything.”
When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
Honestly, as long as I have my water jug and a pizza, I’m all set.
Do you have social media accounts so your fans can follow you?
Yup! We’re on everything as “pressyourluckband”
