How did you come up with the bands name?
We came up with the band name back in April 16th of 2018. We had always bonded over our common interest and passion for music and decided that our long friendship of five years at the time, now nearly ten, would be an amazing way to bring a project of passion that we had both dreamed of doing in our lives. The name came from a discussion we had where we were practically blurting out random things until something stuck and we found the name ‘Decrease in Value’ really reflected our image well as our unique sound and style.

Pop is our main genre which is mixed in with rap.
Give us a little bio about you.
Decrease in Value is a pop duo from Australia which consists of members Luna Rose and Chanel Rose. The duo have been inseparable through a friendship since they were both around the ages of 14. This lifetime of friendship inspired them to pick up on their passion for music together and that is how ‘Decrease in Value’ was made around four years ago. They started in the studio two years ago with nothing but their passion for music and a dream for sharing it with the world. A long journey that finally came to an end two years later with their first release ‘Love or Desire’.
What made you go into music?
Both of us have had a deep passion for music since early childhood which blossomed in our lives to become a strong desire to perform and share experience through the passion of music. Our friendship is what made this determination grow even more and encourage each other to pursue our dreams. Luna had been doing dancing, singing, guitar playing since early childhood and was exposed to a life of music since birth. Chanel had been doing acrobatics, singing and rapping, piano playing since early childhood and also was exposed to a life of music since birth.

You released your new EP ‘Love or Desire’, tell us more about the EP and the meaning behind the song.
The meaning behind the EP as a whole is the exploration into a simple fascination or crush that slowly turns into this dark obsession as the EP goes on. Starting from Love or Desire where the main girls are wondering if this is true love or lustful desire, going into Pull Away is when they are coming to terms with their feelings and wanting this person to notice them but they keep ‘pulling away’, First Love is talking about this being the first time they are experiencing these kinds of emotions and wanting the person to understand, I’m Just Selfish is where the obsession starts to turn into pure craziness talking about how they want this person to themselves and are willing to do selfish bad things to get them, Ravenous is where the obsession has turned into full blown stalking and threats as well as talking about how they plan to win this person over with their crazy ideas.

What was the writing and recording process like?
The process was overall a new experience for us but we managed to use our song writing skills to incorporate into the beats that we had discussed with our producer. We did all the song writing while he did the beats as we described them to what we wanted the sound to be like. We built up a lot of confidence and were able to surprise ourselves with things we didn’t know we could do in terms of our voices and our song writing abilities. The overall process was 2 years which is a long time but we wanted to perfect our art and make something good.
Who did you work with on the EP?
We worked with Curtis from Studio Truth in Melbourne
Will we see a music for any of the tracks from the EP and if so can you tell us more about the creative process for it?
In the future we have plans to make a music video for Love or Desire, as of now the creative progress hasn’t started but we hope to get that coming along in the future. We have had many talks about it though!
Do you have any live shows coming up?
At the moment we currently do not we are just working on getting our sound out there but we would love to perform and see the faces of everyone that has supported us and give them a massive thank you, they are the reason we feel so strongly and good about our music.
What else can we expect in early 2023?
We may have more music projects coming up, we can’t confirm anything but you can probably expect more music from us in the near future!
Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
We see ourselves sharing our passion with the world and inspiring people to live their dreams as we have been. As well as continuing to make more music as much as possible.
What quote or saying do you always stick by?
We don’t have a set quote or motto but we always like to stick by the words of staying true to our dreams and never giving up on the passion that we have when we’re together making music.
When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
We haven’t done any gigs yet live but some things we could never forget in the studio were; A drink
Our phones or laptops for lyric writing or sending
Coffee to help energise us for the day in the studio
Heaps of practice the night before going into the studio
Food for a lunch break after some hard work recording and writing
