INDIE-ALT / FOLK – ROCK ARTIST WHO DIVIDES HIS TIME FROM THE CITY OF GOTHENBURG AND BOHUSLÄN WE WANT TO INTRODUCE YOU TO ‘PAUL BÄCKLIN’ AND HIS BRAND NEW ALBUM! READ OUR CHAT ALL ABOUT IT HERE.

What is your name?
Paul Bäcklin

What is your genre of music?
Indie Alternative / Folk Rock

Give us a little bio about you.
Paul Bäcklin has a violent spirit and a peaceful mind. The moonlight farmer and veteran songwriter divides his life between the rainy harbor city of Gothenburg, and his small farm in a well-hidden valley between two forests in the salt-stained part of the dark Nordics called Bohuslän. With just two remarkable solo albums, the artist and songwriter has cemented himself as a rigid structure in the americana-infused folk rock scene of Scandinavia.  Keen on the emotional significance of the well-written word, not unlike the lyrical giants of the world, Bäcklin presents both vivid landscapes and kitchen sink-esque scenery for your imagination and interpretations to play out in.  Through his unique melodic identity, he makes you feel completely safe, whilst challenging and provoking you in his world of melancholy, humor and raw power

What made you go into music?
Watched a bassplayer play the upright at a classical concert.

Who are your influences?
CAKE, Bob Dylan, Courtney Barnett, Led Zeppelin, Slayer

Are you a signed?
Not with my solo project. Actively independent for now, but I’m defo interested in the right deal.
But my old Stoner Rock band was signed to Sony Music / Gain.

You released your new album ‘The West’, tell us more about the album and the meaning behind the album.
The album is recorded with a live band in a legendary studio in Gothenburg Sweden called Nacksving Studios, and then post-production was done in Bassängen Studio with producer Johan Weber, who also plays electric guitar on the album.

Describe each track in two words.
1. Cowboy, Detective
2. Death, anxst
3. Sea, death.
4. Hard work
5. Exploration, christianity
6. High Horses
7. Tough ocean
8. Locus, Control
9. Powerful, lost

What was the writing and recording process like?
I try to keep the idea at the center of the entire process, instead of as a starting point at the beginning of a timeline.

Who did you work with on the album?
My best friend Johan Weber produced the album, and Isak Edh was the technician at Nacksving.

Will we see a music video for any of the tracks and if so what can we expect from the creative process?
Not sure. Nicola Camoglio and Victor Palm, what do you say?

Do you have any live shows coming up?
Booking a tour for the autumn now. So far I’m staying in Scandinavia, but we’ll see if I can get the band to UK and Germany perhaps.

Let us know where we can get tickets if so.
paulbacklin.com

What else can we expect in early 2023?
Hopefully a couple of filmed live sessions, the vinyl sounds AMAZING, and you can def expect that if you order it and some time off before autumn-action starts.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Dead or famous.

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
Wish I could say the lyrics. But I keep forgetting those. I always remember the level of focus in the audience, and otherwise, I’m not sure. I tend to remember way too much in very high detail or nothing what-so-ever.

Do you have social media accounts so your fans can follow you?
Yeah! @paulbacklin on Instagram is where there’ll be the most action I think. Can’t keep up with the other channels, even though there are accounts pretty much all over. I’m staying quite busy on paulbacklin.com too. Sometimes treating it like a blog in a way. If you drop by instagram, connect through DM’s! i’d love to hear from y’all.
