BEDROOM ALT-POP SINGER-SONGWRITER ‘LISA HELLER’ HAS A CHAT WITH US ALL ABOUT NEW SINGLE ‘YOU WERE THE WORST PART OF MY LIFE’ AND THE MAKING PROCESS. GIVE OUR FULL CHAT A READ BELOW.

What is your name?
Lisa Heller

What is your genre of music?
Bedroom/Alt Pop

Give us a little bio about you.
Everything has been aligning for Lisa Heller. Lisa has upcoming shows with Yung Gravy, Bryce Vine, Andi and Rachel Grae, following a near sell out tour. Lisa’s song “you were the worst part of my life” is the second of twelve coming out this year.

What made you go into music?
I was going through a hard time at the beginning of high school and I needed a creative outlet to help me through. I didn’t know at the time but I was struggling with an ED and anxiety. I wanted to be good at school, good at sports (XC and track), and not fail and the pressure really got to me. Music really helped me through this time. No one was there to judge and I could just let my emotions out in a positive way. I decided to really take a leap of faith and dive into music a couple years ago and I am so happy that I did.

Who are your influences?
Growing up I listened to a lot of my parents’ music. They would always play The Fray, The Script, OAR, Coldplay and bands like that. I realized that I liked this style more than what was on the Top 40 radio stations at times. When I started listening to my own music and had an iPod for the first time, I fell in love with singer-songwriters like Christina Perri and Sara Bareilles. When I first started writing in high school, I think all of these artists had an influence on me that carries through my writing today. I started listening to a wider range of artists more recently in the Pop space like Chelsea Cutler and Jeremy Zucker, who have had a huge impact on my music too.

Are you a signed?
I am distributing through AWAL as an independent artist.

Describe the track in two words.
Cathartic banger

What was the writing and recording process like?
Last summer, I was reflecting on how I had been out of this toxic relationship for over a year now and hadn’t even fully processed it yet. We wanted to tap into the process of getting over someone and realizing they are toxic. Originally we had these verse lyrics that were super

Who did you work with on the single?
I wrote the song with Brandon Rosenfeld and Mike Schiavo. Chris Jobe helped me produce the song, and became a writer on the song as well when we rewrote the verses.

Will we see a music video for ‘ you were the worst part of my life’ and if so, what can we expect from the creative process?
I hope to create music videos for my songs soon. “you were the worst part of my life” would make a pretty epic video..

Will we see an EP or Album and if so, what tell us more about it.
Yes. I have an EP coming out this April and 2 more EP’s later this year.

Do you have any live shows coming up?
Yes, I actually have a bunch of live shows lined up. I’m about to head on tour with Andi and Rachel Grae this March cross-country. I’m joining Bryce Vine on his tour for his Cali dates in Ventura and Anaheim. I also am opening for Hippocampus, Yung Gravy, Peach Tree Rascals, Doublecamp and more at college shows coming up in the next 2 months.

What else can we expect in early 2023?
I have twelve songs coming out this year. In March and April I have another single and an EP coming out, with so many more songs (and EP’s) to follow this year. I’m super excited!

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
In five years I hope to be continuing to tour all over, maybe have my own headline tour, have released an album, hopefully having settled down.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
My dad always has said growing up “successful people do difficult things” and I still live by that. Sometimes it can be hard wondering my purpose and wondering if I’ve found my place here, but I always remember that quote.

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
My microphone, throat coat (this amazing tea that does wonders for a sore throat), my keyboard, ukulele, and a grounded and happy self.
