What is your name?
Mike Talisman.

What is your genre of music?
My music blends together elements of Alternative, Country, Folk and Pop.

Give us a little bio about you.
I have been writing and performing music since a very young age, joining his my band at age 12 after being inspired by my father’s outstanding record collection. Growing up in the countryside at the base of the Grampians Mountain Ranges had a profound impact on my writing. I eventually moved to Melbourne at age 18 to pursue my musical career. I then spent several years touring Australia and abroad with my previous band Red Beard, sharing the stage with the likes of The Getaway Plan, Art Vs Science, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Short Stack and Young Lions (just to name a few.) After taking a hiatus from writing and releasing music for several years, I recently dusted off my guitar and began writing under my new moniker, whilst returning to my roots as a singer/songwriter.

What made you go into music?
I was surrounded by great music from a very young age. My Dad was a great musician and always had awesome music playing around the house. My older brother is a brilliant singer, so I guess it was destined for me to follow in their footsteps!

Who are your influences?
I am influenced by a huge variety of artists. I have recently drawn a lot of influence from the likes of Ryan Bingham, Tyler Childers, Zach Bryan, Whiskey Myers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Eddie Vedder, Warren Zeiders, HARDY and Benjamin Tod.

Are you a signed?
No, I am a fully independent artist.

You released your new single ‘Due Time’, tell us more about the single and the meaning behind the song.
My debut single ‘Due Time’ represents one of the most painful days of my life. My family had just attended a memorial service for our mother and on the drive home I received a call from a police officer telling me that my Dad had just passed away. The single tells the story of that dark day, and encourages others to make the most of the precious time you have with loved ones. The single combines elements of Alternative, Country and Pop music in a storytelling format

Describe the track in two words.
Dark yet Hopeful.

What was the writing and recording process like?
The writing process started in the same way that I start all of my writing – sitting on the couch with an acoustic guitar and letting the song flow out from within. I generally begin all of my song writing based on what emotion(s) I am feeling at the time. From there, the tone is set with a chord progression and melody, and then I let lyrics organically come out. The recording process was great! I flew interstate to work on this one, more on that in the next question though…

Who did you work with on the single?
I worked with ARIA nominated producer Troy Brady (Amity Affliction) at his studio in QLD, Australia. He is a great friend and an outstanding producer!

Will we see a music video for ‘Due Time’ and if so what can we expect from the creative process?
There most likely will be no video for Due Time, however you can certainly expect some music videos from me for my next release!

Will we see an EP or Album and if so, what can we expect from it?
Eventually. The current plan is to release a run of singles every 3 or so months, build up a solid following, start to play live and then move towards and EP/Album/National touring.

What else can we expect in 2022 and early 2023?
Well, for the rest of 2022 I will be preparing for my next recording session in January (and also taking a well deserved break in Vietnam!) I will be back in the studio in Jan and you can expect my sophomore single release shortly after that.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Well, I see this a ‘long game’. I plan to still be releasing music ten years from now, having built up a massive catalogue of great music and having spread my roots all over this beautiful world!

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
“Hard work will always beat talent when talent isn’t working hard.”

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
Some form of nicotine, whiskey, my guitar, a tee-shirt gun and a fully-grown Siberian tiger (obviously.)
