How did you come up with the band’s name?
The name MidMay came from their birthdays. Jacob, who would have been born just one day before Tom, but was born six weeks prematurely.

Give us a little bio about you.
MidMay is a Vancouver-based Alternative-R&B group fronted by Tom Shand and Jacob Regehr. Tom & Jake have been collectively working together for over ten years. They have grown together as music professionals, always working on other projects in the city, but now it is their time to shine.Tom and Jake both sing, lending to the distinctive, full sound and diversity of genres from R&B, funk & soul to jazz and rock. MidMay is transforming and pushing the bounds of Alternative R&B in Vancouver’s post pandemic music scene.
What made you go into music?
Tom: I grew up with it, having a piano in the house and started playing at a young age and I have never looked back. Jake: I have a deep passion for storytelling and for the depth of emotion that can be told in music.
Who are your influences?
MidMay combines their wide-range of musical influences into their sound – including, The Beatles, Anderson. Paak, Carole King, Donny Hathaway, Amber Mark and Stevie Wonder with their inspiration and deliberate, careful writing.

You are set to release your new single ‘Bordeaux’, tell us more about the single and album.
The album is a work in progress and is going to be a project made completely by the two of us. We are releasing this as a single right now.
What is the meaning behind the single?
Growth is sexy and it’s not always pretty at the same time.
What was the writing and recording process like?
We wrote the song in Logic Pro x while writing the instruments one at a time. After that the melody and lyrics were written.

Who did you work with on the single?
We worked on this track solely the two of us.
Will we see a Music video for any of the tracks from ‘Bordeaux’, and if so what can we expect from the creative process?
There will be a few videos posted on our youtube after the release. We are working on a live/acoustic rendition of the song.
Will we see an Album or EP this year and if so, what can we expect from it?
We haven’t decided if that is the direction we want to go, but there will definitely be more singles.
Do you have any live shows or a tour coming up and if so let us know where we can catch you at?
We have been gigging all summer and have one more show scheduled at the moment at Field House Brewing, August 20th 2022.
What else can we expect in 2022?
Tom: Lots of shows and content. Jake: We have been hustling this year, working on our sound and content production, so please follow our socials to keep up with that.
Will we see any collaborations and if so, can you tell us more about them?
At the moment, no, but there are locals in Vancouver we absolutely want to work with.
Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Tom: Continuing to hone my craft Jake: Playing shows, putting out albums, and collaborating with other artists.
What quote or saying do you always stick by?
Jake: “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.”
Tom: “Sometimes I go about in pity for myself, and all the while, a great wind carries me across the sky.”
