What are your names?

the della kit
How did you come up with the band’s name?
“della” comes from “D’allesandro” (Pronounced D’ella-sandro) , my mother maiden name. Her Uncles, Frankie and Rudie had a Jazz big band in the 1950’s called “ The Dallesandro’s. I wanted to honour them and the Italian lineage that I come from. I also am big into circle singing and using my voice to create many sounds and different musical ideas, so the “kit” comes from the idea that I always have what I need to create wherever i go.

I am releasing an album this summer. It’s a collection of material I have been working on for the past few years. It by far is the most amazing creation if have made and I feel that it’s exactly what the world needs right now
What is the meaning behind the album?
This album takes my listeners through a journey of stories of healing and self-love. I speak about the challenges of reclaiming my heart, spirit, & body after being in a toxic relationship. Being broken down, stripped to the core and then being lifted with the blessings of the lessons that come from taking my power back. Started from the ground and building myself back up, looking deep into who I am and how I want to show up in this world, all the while rediscovering the most magical parts of myself.
What was the writing and recording process like?
All of this song started on my RC 505 loop pedal. I created a soundscape and started improvising to find the melodies and the seed of the story behind each song. Then I would sit with it for a long while and decide what it was exactly that I wanted this song to share. I also collaborated with some amazing songwriters to help share my stories. Once the lyrics and melodies were written I collaborated with my co-producer AstroLogical and he added instrumentation and some new jazz chords to the compositions. We then hired an incredible mix of different musicians to play on each song. This was all happening when the pandemic first hit and I was able to record my vocals back home on the unceeded sinixt territories while living in a cottage on the river.
