UP AND COMING POP ARTIST ‘PHANGS’ RELEASES NEW ENERGETIC SINGLE ‘MY PARENTS LOVE YOU’. WE GOT THE LOW DOWN ALL ABOUT WHO PHANGS IS, HIS TOURING PLANS AND ALL ABOUT THEIR COLLABORATION WITH VANS PLUS MORE! GIVE THE FULL CHAT A READ HERE.

What is your name?
My name is Jake Germany and I play music under the name Phangs.

What is your genre of music?
At the core, it’s pop. I guess like an alt pop thing. I don’t know. Genres are so weird.

What made you go into music?
Honestly, that Disney movie from the 90s called A Goofy Movie. I just loved the music and all the hype around this fiction pop star called Powerline.

Who are your influences?
I love 80s and 90s music in general. I grew up on that with my parents. aritsts like Michael, Janet, Mariah, TLC. But then I really came into my own set of inspirations when I became a teenager and growing up even more in the Warped Tour scene.

Are you signed?
Nope! Blessed lol

You released your new single ‘My Parents Love You’, tell us more about the single.
It’s maybe one of my favorite Phangs songs. It feels energetic but still very melodic. I’m really hyped for it to be out!

Describe the track in two words.
Very tight.

Who did you work with on the single?
Corey Mouch co-wrote and produced it!

Will we see a Music video for single ‘My Parents Love You’, what can we expect from the creaKve process?
Yeah, definitely! We shot a performance video inside of the new Gibson Garage in Nashville. I love that space and the people there. With this song kind of sounding like a 2000s alt pop song, I wanted the video to look like that a little, so we just did a straight forward live performances to the song. Those were always my favorite MTV and Fuse videos when I was a teenager.

Will we see an EP or Album and if so, can you give us a teaser of what to expect?
Yeah, this song is part of the full length album roll out. The album is called I Love Everything That You Hate About Yourself and it’s coming out July 15th.

Do you have any live shows or a tour coming up and if so let us know where we can catch you at?
For sure. I’m playing an album release show in Nashville on release day as well as a couple summer festival dates. And then we’re going out on a US co-headliner with my friends, Moontower.

We saw your RAD!! Collab with Vans, tell us how that came about and tell us about the designing process.
I have just always loved shoes! And I’ve literally worn vans my entire life, so the opportunity alone is a dream. I announced my second pair recently and as far as design, the inspiration actually came straight from this Casio digital watch from the 80s that I just thought was so cool looking.

If you had to soundtrack your vans collab, which track would you choose? Can be one of yours or somebody else.
Oh man. That’s tough. Ummm…I’d say…I Love you Always Forever by Donna Lewis.

What else can we expect in 2022?
More shows for sure!

Will we see any collaborations and if so, can you tell us more about them?
Not that I can say yet. I’ve become texting buddies with a childhood hero of mine and we’ve been chatting about some songs together.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Lol I have no idea. Hopefully just creating still and contributing art in all forms, as much as I can.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
You get out what you put in.

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
My phone.
My backpack.
My computer
Headphones.
Aaaand my drummer, Christian haha

Do you have social media accounts so your fans can follow you?
Yeah, it’s just @thisisphangs on everything!
