WE CAUGHT UP WITH ALEXA WILHELM PREVIOUSLY KNOWN AS ALEXA NOELLE! WE GOT CHATTING ALL ABOUT HER UPCOMING NEW MUSIC ‘WHITE PICKET FENCE’, COLLABORATIONS THAT ARE COMING AND MORE. READ OUR FULL CHAT HERE.

Hey Alexa, How have you been?
Good! Thanks!

For those new to you as an artist and your music give us a little bio about who you are, genre and anything else you would like to add.
I am an independent artist currently based out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and a songwriting major at The Berklee College of Music. I think of myself as a singer/songwriter without the limitations of one specific genre. I try to dive into many genres such as pop, jazz, funk, soul, and folk. I also play the piano, guitar, arrange music, compose, and I’m beginning to produce a little on my own as well!

Are you signed?
No, currently I’m completely independent!

You are set to release your new single ‘White Picket Fence’, tell us more about the single.
“White Picket Fence” takes you through various stages of life and touches on the societal expectations that may not apply to everyone. It’s basically a song that questions why people stick to the status quo, and why there’s a stigma around individuality as a whole.

What is the meaning behind the single?
“White Picket Fence” is my way of expressing that the societal routines we are placed in aren’t always ideal, and how life doesn’t always have to happen in a perfect “cookie cutter” way. I wanted to emphasize the plot within the song and how it shows that as you get older you realize what you want, and it doesn’t always align with most Americans’ societal expectations. By no means am I trying to judge anyone who wants a white picket fence and all of that, but hopefully people will relate to the song when I talk about trying to get more adventure out of life than just the same routines, and to feel excited about taking those risks.

What was the writing and recording process like?
Honestly, I thought of “White Picket Fence” in my old college dorm room at 3 in the morning one night, and when I woke up the next day, I couldn’t get it out of my head! That’s how I knew it was going to be a catchy tune. I took a long time to finish the full song, because it was one of the first original songs I ever completed by myself. I recorded the song out of my home and sent the tracks over to David Bashford to be produced. David did such an incredible job with the production, and I can’t imagine the song without his incredible ideas on it.

Describe the track in two words.
Motivating and quirky!

Who did you work with on the single?
I reached out to David Bashford after we had connected via TikTok, and I shared the idea for the song. He thought it was really interesting! After he sent me the first demo, I already loved the direction it was going in! I owe him a lot of credit, he made this song into the funky, quirky song that came to be!

Will we see a Music video for ‘White Picket Fence’, what can we expect from the creative process?
I wish! Maybe someday in the future, I feel that there are a lot of visual elements that could elevate this song, so I’d love to make that happen sometime soon.

Will we see an EP or Album and if so, can you give us a teaser of what to expect?
I’m currently writing a ton of songs, so hopefully I’ll have an EP out within the next year or two! Nothing is currently solidified, but I’m excited for what the future holds!

Do you have any live shows or a tour coming up and if so let us know where we can catch you at?
Not at the moment, but I potentially will be performing in the Milwaukee and Boston areas this summer!

What else can we expect in 2022?
There’s going to be many more covers and originals posted on my social media pages, possibly some full-length songs posted on my YouTube, and I’m happy to announce that David Bashford and I are working on another single called “Seasons Change” which will be released this fall!

Will we see any collaborations and if so can you tell us more about them?
Possibly, but not working on any at the moment. Although, I recently collaborated with my good friend Jay Alan on our song called “Lovesick”, and that’s available on all streaming platforms now!

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Five years from now I’ll have graduated. Hopefully I will be making music full time, writing songs for both myself and other artists. I plan to have an album released by then as well. I also would love to be performing on a regular basis, and it would be a dream to go on tour someday!

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
“Go tell somebody they got a place in this world.” – Sammy Rae

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
I can never go without water, most importantly, but I also always need my guitar tuner, my set list, a good pair of shoes, and an outfit that I feel like myself in.
