No description available.

What is your name?
My name is Gillan! But my musical project and artist name Deer ! Deer is a character I created long ago and represents a side of my personal believes and experiences with a tint of nostalgia and romance .

What is your genre of music?
I like to explore a same sentiment around different genres of music. The project Deer is a universe in itself. I like to view it as a little village with outrageous characters interacting with me, situated in the middle of an uncanny valley. My music explores lyrics along sounds from different moods. From reggeton to techno , dabbling in trap and sad pop.

Give us a little bio about you.
Deer is a multidisciplinary artist embarking on music through visual and auditive inspirations creating a universe on her own with her own agency she’s also embarking on the role of her own mgmt and PR. Through her emotional lyrics, she also explores the many issues on mental health and self-acceptance. A producer, singer song writer and artist of many crafts. Traveling and living as a DJ and producer in many places exhausted the dream but Deer joined Shadow Squad in 2021 after years of an independent journey and multiple experiences in the industry she found comfort In the darkness of Mexico City her hometown.

You are also the founder of Loser Agency, tell us more about that, how it came about, what you offer  and how can people learn more from what you offer?
Loser agency came out of desperation. I had worked so many jobs with in the creative industry and I had meet so many creatives that did incredible things around the globe I wanted to create a space where you could find everything creative for any project , fashion, music , cinema, food …etc I wanted to also have a place where I could share my experience and guide others towards exploring their full potential with in different areas. It’s a space to connect creatives with clients , I take in consults and based on that I form a team. Whether it’s here in Mexico City or in London , I find young creatives through friends I work with in different cities and present them with job opportunities. I also enfisis mental health at loser . I am honest with my clients, and I try to be a sort of big sister for them, it’s important to have someone you trust when you’re in this industry. To look out for the best interest of the clients and not take advantage. Alot of agencies do this and it pissed me off.

What are your prices, and do you offer first time deals?
I honestly work based on the projects. Sometimes I see the potential and the kindness with in someone and I approach them because I want to work with them. Sometimes people approach me and ask for advice or guidance and due to time mgmt and my dedication that I want to give each consultation I charge my base rate to start of its 500 mxn pesos which in dollars is around 25 dollars. And based on that call or meeting I’ll work on a team of people or pack that Fitts your needs and budget. I work with people that charge alot but because they have strong work and book. My own work aside from producing and directing the agency projects are styling,  illustrations, logo design and ghost writing vary based on the time and complexity. Loser also does press, and I over see that I have basic packs from 50 dollars to 100. But I always try to work around what the client can offer and their passion for their proyects pushes me to help out even more !

Who are your influences?
I’m greatly influenced by many artists and many arts. I also have a list of fictional characters that influence me heavily. I admire Grimes career and her ability to create a new world through visuals. I grew up with the artic monekeys and the academy is whose lyrics are a strong influence in my way of writing and story telling. I had a big emo phase with fall out boy , panic at the disco,  paramour and gym class heroes …the WHOLE dance decay lable I think or was it fuel by Ramen ? Anyways I recently discovered one of my favorite songs from Travis scott was written by rayan Ross from patd. I mean those lyrics where too good. I love Lars’s van tras and gus van sant … their stories and characters influenced the way I write form those perspectives. As a whole I’m inspired by the creepy , by Mexican culture… in specific social status , telenovelas which I heavily critique , magic and the strong criminal presence with cartels and narcos. Growing up in Mexico definitely gives you a different outlook on life , death and the world… and that translates to the way you work and how you work.

Are you signed?
I’m recently signed to Shadow Squad Records as nonexclusive. It’s a lable run by young people , the same artists and we are all friends ! It’s nice!

You released your new single ‘ICE’, tell us more about the single.
Ice is a song that came out of frustration and a sort of sadness surrounding my beginning in the music industry as an artist with a solo project. I was making fun in a way of all the flexing surrounding the industry and at the same time saying “ICE on my wrist, a gun inside my bag and the bands that break my jeans” I refer to suicide and mental health issues , violence and money as in advancements and credits.

What is the meaning behind the single?
It’s honestly just a critique in a very cute way, I guess. It’s just the way I see the industry as my character Deer , based on what I’ve lived. It’s a single that’s supposed to be childish , sad and a little paranoid.

What was the writing and recording process like?
I write alot , all the time on my phone or my notebooks. I had written some parts and I finished it in the studio. My producer Wavey and the featuring artist was the one who recorded me. We had just met in my previous lables studio… I felt lost there and found a friend in him, he helped me do the music I wasn’t allowed to do there, and it was a very liberating but scary moment since I was still in a place that I was neglected as an artist, and I felt I was gonna get scolded for doing something out side my * lane*

Describe the track in two words.
Nostalgic paranoia

Who did you work with on the single?
I worked with Wavey 93 the producer and featuring and Amete mix and master.

Will we see a Music video for ‘ICE’, what can we expect from the creative process?
The music video is out now !!! It’s a childish  cybernetic fairytale. A high contrast of nature and effects that make it seem you’re in another planet with the apparition of wavey as a pixilated character. It’s a play on childish visuals , soft , girly and the lyrics criticism towards the industry.

Will we see an EP or Album and if so, can you give us a teaser of what to expect?
I have a few eps on the works, it’s honestly just a matter of time …it takes time to release music when it’s a small independent label. I like to have coherent art and visuals for each release and that’s also costly as I try to up my game each time more. Defiantly this year at least I’ll be dropping music constantly. I am working on a techno and house ep and a reggeton ep as well… you can expect lyrics with heavy statements and out of place for the genres and that’s kind of what you can expect from my project I like to make people revalue what they are listening to and why?

February I’ll be releasing a single with DFP from shadow squad as well. It’s a romantic and sad song.

Following March where I’ll be releasing a reggeton I did in Egypt while living there , so stay stuned!

Do you have any live shows or a tour coming up and if so let us know where we can catch you at?
I do have a show Friday… from when I’m writing this haha! I had a small tour in Mexico. Visiting Puebla, Morelia, Oaxaca center and Puerto Escondido.
I am excited to work on a European tour for 2023!

What else can we expect in 2022?
Honestly alot of art and alot of music! I want to travel and work with my friends around the world so I’m planning to work with musicians everywhere! There’s a story being told through each release so each time I’m trying to bring that story more into the real world and create immersive experiences ideally!

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
I dream of having a creative hub , just being an incubator for the youth,  growing loser to be a company globally and creating a base that can be accessed anywhere. As an artist and with Deer I see myself in a place where I can explore sounds and visuals with no limit and creating sophisticated art pieces not just songs.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
Make your name a currency , Patti Smith said that, and it stuck by me!

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
I have to have my herbal cigarettes *self made …to ease the nerves , a shot of mezcal …I don’t like drinking, but it helps me get lose. I always try to look up into the sky and see my grand ma * she always told me she’d be a specific star*  for good luck , a good eyeliner and my props.
