FROM BEING A STRESS RELIEVER TO CREATING HIS OWN MASTERPIECES TO SHARE WITH THE WORLD LET US INTRODUCE ‘KANI’ AN ALT-POP ARTIST FROM TORONTO,CANADA! GET TO KNOW MORE ABOUT HIM RIGHT HERE AND NEW MUSIC!

What is your name?
“I go by my stage name KANI which comes from the part of my extremely long last name, Dokoushkani. My first name is Aadel (ironically pronounced like the singer Adele).”

What is your genre of music?
“I make pop and alternative-pop music!”

Give us a little bio about you.
“My name is KANI and I am 21 years old. Singing has always been my favourite stress reliever but I wasn’t always good at it. I started taking piano lessons when I was 14 and started building up my ability to sing by trying to match tones with the keys I would play on the keyboard. I really started looking into music as a career when I turned 18 whilst simultaneously trying to juggle my music at the same time. This really took a lot from me mentally. I’m currently in my fourth year of a biology bachelor’s program at Western University!”

What made you go into music?
“I’ve always had the passion to sing but it was always for myself. As cliche as this sounds, it was definitely some relationship failures and spirals which pushed me to make the jump from singing for myself and singing for others.”

Who are your influences?
“My biggest inspiration while I was learning to sing was actually Adele. I really liked her vocal range and I tried for many, many years to mimic that with my own voice. It is actually one of the reasons why I have a more powerful head voice than chest. Right now my biggest influences are the likes of Chase Atlantic and blackbear. I’m obsessed.”

You are set to release your new single ‘Nighttime’, tell us more about the single.
“NIGHTTIME was actually an amazing collaboration with a very well-established artist, Sinxi. Originally, I approached him to produce something Chase-Atlantic-inspired for me but we both ended up liking the song so much that it turned into a vocal collaboration as well! Love when that happens.”

What is the meaning behind the single?
“The song is supposed to represent us at our most conflicted. That juxtaposition between an otherwise calming scenario (walking out on a summers night) and that internal conflict that could be raging on in your head (maybe about some crazy memories you had with an ex, or some bad events in the past) was intriguing and I definitely wanted the song to try and capture that.

What was the writing and recording process like?
“NIGHTTIME was written after, ironically, a nighttime walk that I had in mid-June. It was one of those extremely hot nights and I had just gotten the instrumental from Sinxi. So I’m there listening to it with my headphones and I had this crazy idea in my head about an ambient melody but in a different key than what he had sent me. I’m really picky on which key I can write melodies to and D minor (the original key of the instrumental I was sent) just wasn’t doing it for me, so I kind of transposed it in my head while walking and recorded my melody on my phone. After that it was just some tweaking of the chorus until we got it to sound how we wanted. Fun fact; I think I wrote like 3 different choruses for this song. ”

Describe the track in two words.
“Deeply nostalgic”.
