What is your name?
My name is Maria Pellicano.. it’s nice to meet you.

What is your genre of music?
I am a Singer/Songwriter.. My music is mainly contemporary inspirational music

Give us a little bio about you.
As well as being a Melbourne based singer/songwriter, I have spent the last 16 years working with many singers and artists through my singing school, SingOut. I was teaching singing for many years prior to this and have spent more than 30 years teaching vocalists, leading more than 5000 people to grow in their artistry. I am also a coach who helps leaders and influencers to develop their speaking skills and have written a book, ‘The Art Of Powerful Communication’ to reach many more people to find their voice and message.

What made you go into music?
My music journey began in school in grade 5, when I first began to play my guitar and sing. I was inspired by the early songs of the 1970s on the radio and wanted to learn to play the music I could hear. I grew up within the church and my dad had made me promise that if he bought me a guitar, that I would only play at the church. Therefore, from the ages of 11 years to 23 years old, my church became my public space where I learnt to perform and to become comfortable in front of audiences. After that I started to venture out and play in bands, play weddings, funerals and lots of other national and international performances. I began releasing some albums and that gave me the opportunity to travel and showcase my songs.

Who are your influences?
My influences include Jewel, Alanis Morissette, Eva Cassidy and then I love rock bands like Bono and journey and then I had lots of Christian artists I followed my favourite big singers were or are still Celine Dion, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and other Italian solo singers

Are you a signed?
I’m an independent artist

Your new single ’Forever and Ever’ is coming out, tell us more about the single.
The single forever and ever is about not giving up it’s about recognizing darkness or shadows in your life and being able to look at things that remain forever not getting caught up on emotions and feelings. I can come and go the leaning into those things I will always be there and hoping for those things that can last instead of looking at those things in your life that many times can be broken. This song is mostly about hope and about looking up and waiting for the world to open up instead of seeing it shutting down on you.

Who did you work with on the single?
I worked with producer, Josh Hennessey from pivotal music, who helped me produce the song and record it.

Describe the track in two words.
Opening Up (not giving out on the world that is opening up for you if you want it)

What was the writing and recording process like?
The writing of the song was a reflection time for me a time to sit on my piano and reflect on what was happening in my world in the time during time of Covid lockdown. I was able to look at those things in my life that were making me sad and in the midst of that looking for words and concepts of hope not just for me for the world for me the process is about music first melody and then words. But I expect from this song is that it brings life to those who feel like they’re so flat and down and I would like this song to be an inspiration and a sense of hope to the broken-hearted bringing a sense of forever and ever life.

What else can we expect in 2021?
The year is nearly over but I do have another single that I am hoping to sneak through before the year is out.

My hope for 2022 is greater freedoms and insights into a life that is expensive and full of surprises and I will be developing a workshop where I help people connect with her voices and their work.

My workshop is going to be called the engaging voice and I will help speakers poets and singers connect with meaning and heart and purpose bringing confidence clarity and potential to everyone who dares to stand on any platform an impact other people with their voices

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Five years from now I am hoping to be living by the beach, actually the ocean, delivering training to local people in my area and those would wish to come from abroad.. Coaching teaching singing and helping people become confident and powerful my work is always a pleasure and I never feel like I want to stop doing this even if I live in leisure and by the beach.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
What are the quotes I often think about is Albert Einstein’s quote which says “connect you cannot solve a problem with the same thinking that created”

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
Five things that I always think about when I’m at gigs would be:
engage with your audience
make the words come to life with meaning
find a place in your heart where you can connect with what you saying
enjoy the song and make sure you’re singing from your heart and;
smile relax and give your voice away to Others.
