INDIE-POP ROCK ARTIST ‘PÄTER’ DEBUTED THEIR FIRST EP LAST YEAR AND NOW RELEASED THE NEW SINGLE ‘OBSTINATE BRAIN’ FROM UPCOMING EP THAT IS SET TO RELEASE IN FEB 2022. I GOT A CHANCE TO CHAT ALL ABOUT IT HERE. READ IT BELOW!

No description available.

What is your name?
Parmida/Päter/p.

What is your genre of music?
Indie pop rock with some drama.

Give us a little bio about you.
I put out my first EP “SOLE” last year. I wrote and produced it over a few months at home. People seemed to like it so I’m back at it again!

What made you go into music?
I think it was being alone often as a kid and finding a lot of comfort in listening to music. That’s when I started writing.

Who are your influences?
Some favs – Kate Bush, The Strokes, Muse, Lily Allen.

Your new single ’Obstinate Brain’ is coming out, tell us more about the single.
It’s a jam! It’s a pop/rock anthem on unrequited love. It was written as a word vomit in one go and it’s super cathartic to perform. Can’t wait to play it live and bounce around.

Describe the track in two words.
Avril Lavigne. Lol. Maybe not relevant but… that’s what the song feels like to me.

What is the meaning behind the single?
Obstinate Brain is about unrequited love but from the perspective of someone who’s too proud to admit how they’re feeling. The lyrics kind of try to hide vulnerability behind technical language but it’s still pretty obvious where the sentiment is coming from. When I was writing this, I was very frustrated with what I was experiencing and also a bit self-aware that I wasn’t handling it correctly which led to… more frustration. For the amount of confusion in that time period I feel like the song came out surprisingly coherent.

What was the writing and recording process like?
I wrote this from my bed one morning when I was feeling lots of things. When we got to recording it, we did it live off the floor so all the main instruments – drums, bass, most guitars – were recorded together, which gives the whole thing a nice, driving energy.

Who did you work with on the single?
Two masterminds really helped this one come together – Charles Tilden who co-produced it with me and Alex Purcell who is my bandmate and guitarist. Also couldn’t have happened without Kevin Howley on drums, James Cudworth on bass, Kyle Gamble on the mix and Mariana Hutton on the master.

Will we see a music video for ‘Obstinate Brain’, what can we expect from it?
Yes! It’s a trip. I’m currently editing it. Let’s just say… minimalist surreal with morph suits (in Päter purgatory?).

Will we see an EP or Album and if so, what can we expect from it?
There is an EP on the way for 2022. It’s called “WHEREFORE WEEP I THEN?” and it’s a collection of stubborn/ scrappy love songs. This EP feels a lot more together than my last one – more like a concept project I would say. With SOLE, everything came together super fast. This one I’ve spent more time on.

What else can we expect in 2021?
We may or may not see another single this year, but definitely more snippets & shows before the new year!

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
Touring my music around the world (i.e. world domination).

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
“What’s the worst that could happen?” and/or “we’ll make it work.”

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
A capo, water, cool shoes, a vague idea of a set list & a button up shirt.
