What is your name?
My name is Kelaska

What is your genre of music?
Genre is Indie Pop

Give us a little bio about you.
I started putting covers on youtube in 2015 and after gaining a little bit of a following decided to release some originals in 2019. In 2020 I released a 6 song EP called Nostalgia that featured waves of indie pop blended with sounds from the 60s and 70s. This year I released three singles, my current single is called “September” and it’s about the beginning stages of falling in love.

What made you go into music?
I’ve always been in love with singing and knew from a young age I wanted to be a musician.

Who are your influences?
My influences are Fleetwood Mac, Maggie Rogers, The Beatles, Kacey Musgraves, John Mayer, and Bruce Springsteen (to name a few.)

Are you a signed?
I am not signed.

Your new single ‘September’ is out, tell us more about the single.
September is about that feeling when summer is winding down and everything starts to take on this dreamy feeling. The song talks about falling in love and wanting to be around that person all of the time. It’s the only love song I’ve ever released.

Who did you work with on the single?
I worked with my producer Mackenzie Christensen. We worked at his house to record most of the song, but also went to Dirt Floor Studio in Haddam, Ct to record vocals and drums. The guitar solo was also done there.

Describe the track in two words.
 Dreamy and Happy.

What was the writing and recording process like?
The process was fairly easy, the song came out right away and I wrote the lyrics within 20 minutes. Tracking it was also a lot easier compared to some of my other songs because it was a lot more organic in its instrumentation.

Will we see an EP or Album and if so, what can we expect from it?
Right now I’m focused on releasing singles. I did an EP last year and found that people right now, are liking the short releases a lot better. This way I can release something every other month and keep things fresh.

What else can we expect in 2021?
For the remainder of the year I have two more releases. At the end of October, I’ll be featured on a song called Walls by Lielack. We filmed a music video the other day for the song, so that was really fun! After that, a cover of the song Blue Christmas will be out in time for the holidays. Then it’s just preparing for next year’s music.

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
I’d hope that in five years I’ll be playing out and touring a little bit. It’s been one of my dreams for a long time, so I’d like to try and make that happen.

What quote or saying do you always stick by?
I don’t really have a specific quote, but I try to just tell myself to listen to my intuition and do what feels natural to me. As long as I’m releasing music I’m happy with and having fun along the way, I know I’m on the right path

When you are at a gig, what are 5 things you cannot forget?
Water might be the most important non-music item. After that I’d say extra strings, my guitar or ukulele, the print outs of the music (I don’t have an iPad yet to look at the tabs on), and my Snark tuner.

Do you have social media accounts so your fans can follow you?

Yes! I have an account on pretty much any platform. Usually if you search Kelaska I”ll come up in some form. For instagram and twitch.
