BORN IN MONTREAL RAISED IN VANCOUVER AND NOW TAKING ON THE BIG APPLE. INTRODUCING NU-DISCO / SOUL SINGER-SONGWRTIER ‘MIRANDA JOAN’ AND BRAND NEW SONG ‘DANS MA POCHE’, GET TO KNOW MORE ABOUT IN OUR CHAT RIGHT HERE.

What is your genre of music?
I would say that my music lands somewhere within the greater “soul-bowl”. Meaning a combo of soul, neo-soul, jazz, R&B and pop… to list every genre, ha!

Give us a little bio about you.
I was born in Montréal, raised in Vancouver and have spent the past eight years in New York City working as a musician in all kinds of capacities. Some highlights have been playing festivals like the Montreal Jazz fest, founding Femme Jam: NYC’s first all-female led jam session as well as song writing and releasing my original music.

What made you go into music?
It was a pretty natural progression if I’m being honest. I was always drawn to music as a child and slowly over time it grew into different music lessons, R&B band in high school, studying music in university and before I knew it the life of an artist was upon me! I just kept working at it because I loved it.

Your new single ‘Dans Ma Poche’  is out, tell us more about the single.
My new single “Dans Ma Poche” came about because of a running inside joke between my brother and I. We started creating this character NUNI around the idea of me having a French DJ alter ego, which then turned into the lyrics and vibe for “Dans Ma Poche”. When I brought up the joke to my producer Julian J3P0 Pollack he thought it was hilarious and ran with it. Et voilà!!!

What is the meaning behind the single?
The song is about the things that NUNI (aka me) wants to carry around with her in her pocket: family, friends and pastries. This is very much drawn from personal truth because if you were to ask me what I’d love to reach into my pocket and grab, I would answer with that exact list!

Who did you work with on the single?
I worked with my immensely talented producer and frequent collaborator Julian “J3P0” Pollack who is a true partner in crime in all things music and someone I very much enjoy and appreciate working with!

Describe the track in two words.
Dance. Butter.

What was the writing and recording process like?
As I mentioned earlier, it came about as a joke with my brother, so we were really just messing around when the idea came up. This is very different from my usual writing process but it was fun to do something more lighthearted and it was hilarious surprising my brother with the final product after myself and Julian worked on it.

Will we see an EP or Album and if so, what can we expect from it?
I will be releasing an album but it will be more in the vein of my usual releases. I plan on creating more NUNI jams, so she is still alive and well and will absolutely be making it back onto the scene!

Where do you see yourself now in 5 Years?
I see myself doing exactly what I’m doing right now: creating and performing. My hopes are to be doing it in a greater capacity and continuing to grow as an artist which might look like bigger tours and more records but at its core, I am doing exactly what I want to be doing. And that’s a beautiful thing that I see with a newfound appreciation especially after this past year.
